Ok so my cousin and I go to walmart to get some grub. We come back out, get in the truck, start it and it won't go into gear.
It started normal but when i pressed the brake to shift out of park the shifter would not unlock. Usually when you press the brake when it is in park the shifter makes a click noise. This was not happening tonight.
Is this some kind of safety/security feature or what?
If anyone can help me with this it'd be great to help me save some big bucks by not having to take it to a dealer (gasp).
Thanks
I could be wrong but it sounds like you might have a problem with your shift lock release. It is designed to prevent you from moving the tranny out of park without having your foot on the brake. Sometimes the switch fails. There is a manual override in the owner's manual, at least in my 2003 there is. I never used it on this vehicle so I can't tell you how easy it is to do.

Yeah, I have heard of that before, in some cars, its near the shifter, I'm not exactly sure where it is on the TB.

Dave was right, not that I doubted him.
Pop the boot off of your gear shifter, and under there, there is an orange lever, raise the lever and move the vehicle into gear, then replace the boot. This is just a temporary thing though, I would not depend on this. It sounds like you need some service, but maybe this will help you save money on a tow if you haven't already towed it.
In the manual, its under "Shift Lock Release".
Hope this helps.

I looked in this section of the manual last night and for some reason they have this section whited out with a huge white sticker. Im trying to find it with the online owners manual thats in the resources section.
I had to leave my truck at walmart all night so its probably up on blocks now.

Isn't this feature removed by GM under a recent recall. :undecided

  Well, we drove alll the way back to walmart today to try the thing that was covered up in my owners manual (for a reason obviously) and there was no orange lever...nothing. So we decided to check all the fuses basically because thats the only thing we havent tried yet and they are all working so i had to shell out more money on this lemon. ($15 for a fuse test kit and a variety of fuses. SO, i have to get it towed to the shop that is all to familiar with my trailblazer and its...guess...TWO blocks away from walmart!!! Ugh im so frustrated with this thing and chevy right now i want to sell it but I doubt I will find a buyer.

Whoa, dude.... calm down. Don't jump off the deep end just because of one problem. I'm sure it's fixable. :m2:
I could understand if you were having HUGE problems ALL along, but I think probably just the shift lever broke or malfunctioned for whatever reason.

I understand what youre saying but its not just this one problem. I have had problems with it ever since i got it. Ignition switch, water pump, tailights, air conditioner, etc... and whatever this is. I love my TB but its going to have 100,000 miles by the time the year is over and enough is enough. I worked my :x off to make my payments (2 jobs, one for 5.25/hr the other for 5.50/hr) and to put everything on it and I dont see my hard work being made worthwhile.
I dont know what to do...

The coon didn't get em...nope. Someone DID write on my paint with thier finger (yeah, my truck is dirty because we have been getting hurricane dennis in ky all week). THAT set me off and i about threw a shopping cart.
They wrote:
"Hi yore car is pirty!!!!"
Dad told me to just take it as a complement and wash/wax it off later.

100,000 is a lot of miles...you could trade it up for a newer version, maybe keep the rims and such. Either way I hope it all works out. Let us know what happens with it.

it ain't just one problem. These Junkadoos have lots of problems. Mine has had numerous problems from suspension to exhaust. As soon as I am not so upside down on my loan I am dumping this pig

You guys must either really beat on your trucks, or have lemons then. I haven't had an ounce of trouble with mine :m2:

I think it depends on where you're from. I think the per hour around here(philly) is 5.50. I wouldn't be able to afford anything making that much. Even now i'm trying to save for a house, so it's hard to go out with my friends all the time.

Federal minimum wage is STILL (ehmm republicans cough) $5.15/hr. Some states have higher minimum wages for theirselves but kentucky does not.

No I dont beat on my truck I take extemely good care of it. I would not abuse something that I work 40 hours a week for.
I bought it with 73000 miles on it so maybe the previous owner did.
As for being a lemon...
I swear up and down that the envoys do not have near as many problems if any. Everytime you hear of a problem its a trailblazer having it.
I guess GMC really is "professional grade" :undecided
Envoys still have their problems. I always see a couple getting serviced when I take my Caddy in (GMC/Pontiac/Cadillac dealer).

Yeah I personally know a couple folks who have problems with their envoys. I know one of them beats the living $*&% out of it though. The other, well I just have to blame that on being a lemon.
If your truck has that kind of mileage though (73K plus, and not knowing its real history) who knows what the cause of the problems is/are.

The first time I had to take this thing to the shop(I take it to the same one everytime) the guy kinda laughed and said "I have a feeling I'm gonna be seeing a lot of you around here...I have a list of TSBs just for the transmission" whether thats true or not I dunno but I have become a regular as he calls it. *sigh*
Update:
I have been trying to call the shop all day (after my truck was towed in on a flatbed this morning) and I havent got anyone to answer the phone so I have no clue whats wrong with it.

Well I got a call yesterday at about 4pm saying my truck was ready. I thought "wow must of been something very minor". I get to the shop and he tells me that some switch in the shifter was bad and it locked it up. So I go out to the truck start it up and put it in gear and drove off. I get about 500 feet from the shop and realize the air conditioner and fan are not working. So I turned around and took it back.
The guy came out and I told him what was going on and he just tells me like it is. "Sir there are 200 some odd TSBs (this was right, I looked at his list) on these trucks and although I appreciate your business I would recommend you sell this thing or trade it."
Thats just an update I dont know if I am going to get rid of it or not yet. :(

Ever since they replaced the radio, which needs to be replaced again because the volume is screwed up, I've been having some wierd problems. It stalled on my in traffic once, and I hear some strange noise/rattle coming from underneath. I know the data bus goes through the radio so I don't know what the problem is. :worried:

Sounds to me like the guy has an attitude problem. :duh: Are there any other GM service departments in your area? If they treat all their customers this way,

hmm... well the rattle could just be that they didn't put a screw back in that should be there. I dunno what to say about the stalling though. Might be an unrelated problem with the charging system?
tb_ky: was this at a GM dealership? I bet his service manager (or whoever his superiors are) would LOVE to hear him telling a customer to get rid of their truck just because it has a few TSBs out on it. I'd fire him without a second thought!

I think he was talking about a local mechanic. He has over 100k on the truck, so I am sure he is out of waranty, and I don't think he would pay dealer prices to hear that BS. But I agree, if it was a dealer, someone needs to be unemployed!!

I don't beat on my vehicle but I expect it to hold together better than it has. I bought it brand new with 161 miles on it. My family has had Suburbans since they made them with 3 doors; the third door being a slide door like a van( a very long time ago). My dad buys one every 5 years or so. The 89 I drove out to Colorado in 1998 had 340,000 miles on the original motor. That was a truck, not these glorified large cars. Unfortunately I either have a lemon or GM is losing their quality. I am never going to buy brand new again especially a GM.

Its just a local mechanic but I dont think he was being rude...just honest. The guy is a preacher that my dad knows so he always gives us the lowest charge he can give us so I'm willing to accept the attitude.

Yes I hate to say it but the guy sounds like he is just being honest. My brother was a tech at a Chevy dealership and he told me they did get a lot of TB's in for repairs. Mostly electrical stuff, which always turns out to be very expensive. He said the extended warranty is a must for these trucks.
In my case the price was too good to pass up and the dealership threw in a 5 year 90k mile GMPP extended warranty at no extra charge. But we also have the family protection plan since my brother is an ASE certified mechanic.
