I'm thinking of removing the clearcoat on the SS wheels and polishing them. I don't think I'll recoat them afterwards, just gonna keep up with the polishing. Is this a good idea? I mean, I hate how fricken dull these wheels are, polished wheels should look polished. Also, how will the aluminum react to paint remover?

get some aircraft stripper from autozone[do not do this on the truck]2cans per wheel ,youll have to do it a couple of times ,let it sit on the wheel ,it will bubble like crazy, after about 15 min hose it off with water. get some 2000 grit & 3000 grit wetsanding paper sand the wheel down it will take out all the imperfections and make polishing the wheel easyer ,try using the mothers power ball to polish with, if it doesnt ,work good old fashion elbow grease .this method does work but its real time consuming around 6hrs a wheel. good luck

Gee, ya think  . Lol, thanks for the advice. You don't think the paint stripper will react with the aluminum do you? And you read my mind with the power ball. That's what I thought I would use to make the whole process go 5X faster.

It won't hurt the aluminum integrity, just the finish. Have fun polishing them. We have about 7 Peterbilts at work and have poilished a set of wheels, it sucks ASS!!!

its going to dull out the wheels a little bit thats what the wetsanding paper is for, ive done 2 different sets of factory wheels this way and they turned out real nice, and maintaining them isnt to bad.

IMO, this is the way to go if you have the time and motivation. Chroming is nice but will add unwanted weight and cost way more and the truck will be out of commision longer too.

if you chrome them the finish wont last that long due to pitting. rocks hitting them and other stuff. If i were you i would strip the clearcoat and polish them, yes it might be alot of work but i think the end result will be awesome. and unlike chrome if they get dull just buff them out and they will be like new

I really don't think they will be a lot of work if I use a powerball.....
