Has anyone noticed that the tire selection for the TBSS size (255/50/20) has grown from 2 to 7 on Tire Rack? A month ago they only had the OEM Goodyear Eagle RSA and the Michelin Diamaris. Now it's 2 Michelins, 2 Dunlops, 2 Continentals, and the OEM Goodyears (which have dropped dramatically in price, as well they should).

4 different brands encompassing 7 models is REALLY good news (this early in the model run) for anyone used to having a limited tire selection in OEM size, like us former Impala SS owners....

Another kind of interesting option for those that don't go offroading may be the BF Goodrich g-Force T/A KDW2 in 265/50VR20:

http://www.tirerack.com/tires/Spec.jsp?make=BFGoodrich&model=g-Force+T%2FA+KDW+2&vehicleSearch=false&fromCompare1=yes&partnum=65VR0GFTAKDWXL&tirePageLocQty=%26partnum%3D65VR0GFTAKDWXL

They're consistantly rated very highly performance wise.

Specs of the OEM Goodyear Eagle RS-A tires:

They have a 300 treadwear vs 260 (not that that means anything compared across brands), greater max load (2184 vs 1984), lower weight (37lbs vs 38lbs), and just a slightly greater overall diameter (30.4" vs 30.1"), so it really shouldn't affect the speedo.

The tread looks great too.

I always have been a fan of the g-Force T/A's tread design. If only I lived in an area where I could run those tires year 'round. :worried:

but will those BFG KDWs 265mm fit up front without hitting the suspension. i had the BFG KDWs on my GTO (and what a great looking tire they are :) ) , but they definatly ran wider than most brand of tires. compared to most other 265s, the BFGs would look like 275s.

i really want to put some 265s on all 4 corners, but i am concerned with the rubbing, and i dont want to get spacers or new wheels for that matter.

They do look cool, and get good reviews in the dry, but as others just mentioned, I don't think I'd go even 1mm bigger than normal because of the clearance issues in the front near that upper control arm...there's only a finger width of space in there, and I imagine with a decent push it could distort to narrow that gap.

I would like to put some wider tires in the rear of my 2WD, for the look..I don't think I'll do it though because A) I don't have ANY traction problems now and B) because they would probably make me run slower...Maybe after I do some extensive mods, but I will wait because I really think this truck under most circumstances will not require stickier tires, if blubyu ran 12.6 & 12.1 on motor & then N2o on the stock tire with a 1.69 60'...they're doing pretty good..

Hmm, if there's only a 1mm gap, I don't think it would work.

This tire has a .3" (7.6mm) difference in section width at 10.4" for the BFG and 10.1" for the Goodyears.

That would mean the inside would be roughly 3.8mm wider, though that's on an 8.5" measuring rim width compared to 8" on the Goodyears. I'm guessing with the same measuring rim width, it'll probably be able 3mm or so still.

The gap is larger than 1mm...I was only trying to make a point, that it is a VERY small gap indeed, perhaps a finger will fit in between the tire and the arm, so anything wider doesn't seem wise - but I'm the conservative type.

Some might say "hmmm...a finger? Heck, that's plenty!"....just not me.

Well, I guess there's always wheels spacers to put the wheels out a few mm.
