View Full Version : anyone knowwhre the best place to find a 3.73 4x4 tranny with transfer case?

Im wanting to switch my truck from 3.42 to 3.73 and get a used tranny for 4x4, where would be a good place to get it or find a wrcked one, i can get cheap. also Im assuming all model years up to 05 will fit my 04 TB, seems like they are all identical, A good junkyard thats within a couple hundred miles of vegas would be good.

So you currently have a 4x4 with 3.42 gears? The 4L60E trans is the same for 4x2 and 4x4. As far as I know, any 4L60E will bolt in. Going to 3.73's would be costly. You'd have to swap out the front and rear diff ring gears (and prolly more). Switching your TB from a 4x2 to 4x4 would be a $$$$ frankenstien project if you wanted to keep it stock.

Yep, the gears are in the rear axle, not the tranny. If you are trying to do a 2WD to 4WD conversion, save yourself the headaches and trade your TB in for a 4WD one. Believe me, it will be much easier and you can get the 3.73s from the factory at the same time.
