Any of you guys try a PI Vigilante yet with you TBSS?

http://www.converter.com/vigilante.htm

I've had them in my vette and TA and absolutely loved it. They also offer a free restall for your converter should you change your mods.

All you guys talk about is the yanks but I prefer a vigilante again over the yank. All you old timers probaly understand. ;) (99redhawk :) )

Thats a cool thing, free restall if you change mods. Would be nice for now if you wanted like a 3200 for now, but later wanted a 3600 after you did some FI and wanted to make it fast instead of a DD.

And, since I have no idea what you are talking about between the two brands, whats the difference?

I'm not an old timer so fill me in please. I will switch mine out eventually and would like to consider all the options. TIA

We offer them and they are great converters. I would advise caution though, only install this converter if you plan on not doing any towing with your TBSS. Otherwise it will be a big help ;)

John - Do you guys have part #'s for the TBSS yet and pricing? I don't think I saw it on your website.

Which would you guys recommend, the yanks or the PI's?

I don't know anything about the current yanks. You guys may want to do a seach on LS1tech.com (or ls1.com) for history or current. Memory serves me right, I believe it had something to do with the manufacturing process of the yanks and components used compared (stock cut housings, etc). It's been a LONG time however. The threads may be still around. Only thing I can say is I've always been happy with my PI's, so I figured why not.

You may want to check both manufacturers websites. I believe PI manufacturers the housing out of billet instead of just cutting open a stocker.

Maybe someone with converter knowledge can share it with us here?

They prefer to use a triple disc 10.5" converter for these trucks.

The info is as follows:

2800-3000 PIV240018-3 $934.42
3200-3400 PIV270018-3 $934.42
*just added to our site*

Yank will not sell to shops anymore. You can only buy direct.

Whats the highest you can go and still tow with either Yank or PI or no difference there?

Towing something like a jet ski? or like a boat/car? I wouldnt tow anything at all - trans temp will get pretty high and toasty.

Well yank states they have a 3200 stall that can tow sock caps. temps wont be to bad if its a eff. converter. and you should always install a big cooler with the verter anyways just my 2 cents

Yea, thats one of the reasons if I get an SS I will have to get a converter that still allows me to tow enough weight (about 4K to be safe).

If I had to tow anything, I would never consider a high stall converter (for the tranny's sake) no matter what the claims are. ;)

Of course it's the "fragile" 4L70e that'll get the blame anyways so stall and tow away! :p

But then again, someone "claims" to be able to spray a 100 DRY shot on a I6 4.2L trailvoy also. (Anyone tell this guy that a mafless system has no way of adding fuel? )

On a side note, I know a great place where you can get replacement motors and tranny's for incredible prices. ;)

Lets put it this way, I plan on buying a TBSS.

I plan on doing headers, cam, heads, and a trans cooler ... but not a converter. I plan on using it as a tow vehicle.

We have sold converters to TBSS owners and they make a huge difference - I personally draw the line at the towing abilities though.

Could you link to a trans cooler for a TBSS? I'd much appreciate it

I did a little searching...

http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?autofilter=1&part=BMM%2D70266&view=1&N=4294924500+4294906626+0&appfilter=1

looks promising. Would that oil cooler be big enough for a tbss? In this price range, it seems worth it to go with the very best option...

Very cool, gonna use it as a killer tow truck!!

Nice man, Im pretty much in the same boat you are. I gotta tow, but I like the heads, cam, headers, trans cooler. Probably gonna be looking at these if I get a frickin SS eventually.

Off topic: Since the TB isnt going to die until 2010, does that mean we will have a TB SS model until then?:undecided

We usually do the BM70264 ($54.99) ... the one you listed you would have to make lines for, the one I just listed uses barbed fittings and hose.

To be honest we have not done one yet on a TBSS, on my own I would try to maybe find something that is a little more heavy duty, maybe with a little fan on it. Just to make sure that the trans doesnt roll over dead while towing.

That B&M cooler is the one I had installed when the converter went in also. While yes it does come with the rubber hose and barbed fittings, I still had everything hard plumbed and it looks totally factory. I think having it hard plumbed is worth the little extra money if you are going to do it IMO.

My 04 Denali had an external trans cooler and trans temp gauge. I wonder if this could retrofit into a TB SS?
