Anyone have duals on their SS that may have pictures of the routing?

Thanks,

Troy

I have duals but never got the opportunity to get it up on a lift and take pictures with a decent camera. I'll keep trying though.

And don't worry, the sticker on the window came off right after I took the picture.

Looks good from that angle, can you post more/better pics?

I would think this is something the aftermarket will take care of as well since the lower half of the rear bumper on the SS is detachable and should be easily replaced with a snap on unit with cut out molded in.

ps- if you do mod your own rear bumper for duals, the cool thing is if you screw it up it's not that expensive since you don't have to replace the entire rear fascia...

get a drop light and get under the ss and take some pics you dont have to be on a lift to see good pics. and that does look sweet

Duals are cool, don't know if I can wait long enough for the aftermarket and I don't really want to have a system made.

The Duals should have come factory like that!

I'm so glad the SS Malibu gots duals from the factory because they look great! This is the first car that I won't have to change the exhaust on! :D

For sure. The ones that were on the concept. The tips were like the brake vents on the front..

I've been to no less than 6, count'em 6, exhaust shops and they all tell me that there's not enough room to run the other pipe because of the fuel lines, tank etc. I know several SS's have been done, but, I need a pic to show these knuckleheads that it can be done.

Maybe coming out the rear poses a problem? I took mine to a local shop that has done several other vehicles for me. I wanted duals exiting out the side old school style

Here's a pic. Mine's an 06 V8 not SS

I think all you'll lose is maybe the spare tire. Obvously it can be done.

Thanks, for the pic, but could you possibly show how it splits from the muffler and the clearance between the differential and the spare? I'm sure everyone would appreciate it!

Nice TB Spong, and the shop did a real nice job for you with the duals, what mufflers you get?

Spong
07-01-2006, 12:59 PM
It's not a true dual setup, the muffler is a single in/ dual out Flowmaster.

I have more pics and I'll post them later. No clearance issues. This shop specializes in making custom exhausts for hot rods etc. It's rare to see anything new in the shop!

I think if someone's got the Balls to use megaphone type outlets and trim the lower fascia around them it would mimic the concept and look killer..I don't like the gap around the duals I've seen so far..almost reminds me of the time when "cutting" the rear valence on the must GT was in and in 6mos the fad was over and you had MANY ugly GT's running around with holes in the bumper..I think the inner shape of the mold at the original outlet is needed on the other side to make it look right (which seems to be a near impossibility???)

I agree.. Another one I'd like to see is the hitch remove, the regular exhaust hole plugged and the 4 tips like the Corvette in the center. Don't know if it would look good but I'd like to see it done.

The SRT8 looks badazz with that dual going down the center. 4 pipes might just look pretty damn sweet too!

Pics showing the routing of the pipes would help me greatly, because these guys are telling me that there isn't enough room to run the left pipe and it would be too close to the fuel line and tank.

Duals could be done easier with a smaller fuel tank from an 02 or early 03.

Then I'd deffinately run out of gas. I go to the station enough.

:undecided The routing will probably be the same as the Borla dual exhaust system is for the 4.2L I-6 TB's. No loss of spare tire either.

WetDoG
07-03-2006, 01:56 AM
There must be a slight difference in the routing for the 6 cylinder, because Borla doesn't list a package for the SS.

Troy

Borla may not have had a TB SS in yet to put a system on. The connection from the exhaust pipe to the muffler is different on an I-6 or 5.3L than it is on the 6.0L. So a current Borla system wouldn't fit the SS, but when they get around to making one, the routing should probably be the same.

I sent an e-mail to Borla asking if they had anything in the works for the split duals for the TBSS. In the meantime, if one of you guys have duals and could take some pics of the routing, I would appreciate it. I know I can have duals put on for a lot less money than Borla will charge.

The pipe size is 2.25" if I remember correctly. I wanted 3" but he said there wasn't enough room to run dual 3". He said he could easily do 3" single but I wanted dual so I agreed to the smaller pipe.

You guys with duals on your TBSS, are you having any problems with the heat from the left hand pipe. The fuel filler hose and and other lines being that close to the pipe, was that a concern for you?

That is a tad more cross section at 7.95 square inches for dual 2.25" vs 7.07 square inches for the single 3". With the boundary layer, the flow is probably pretty similar between the two.

Stock piping is 2.75" so I did gain some. Mainly, I like the look of duals and the better sound.

Borla should just put out the dual exhaust and let some aftermarket company take care of the dual exhaust insert. I would loose the spare if I had to, to fit the duals.

Stainless Works has a true duals system (seperate exhaust tubing for each side with a X-over). It looks really good.
