I have an 04 tb ls ext 4wd with about 3500 miles on it. Last week I was driving to the dealership to get the oil changed for the 1st time and the truck completely died out at a stop light. After a few turns of the key it finally started. The check engine light stayed on the entire time while I was driving to the dealer. Once I got there they had to re-program the computer, since then it has been running fine. This is the first time I have ever purchased a Chevy and I'm a little bit worried since I alreay had an electrical problem with only 3500 miles on it. The guy at the dealer ship said it should be ok, and I sure hope that is the case. I plan on driving this truck into the ground, and hope to get at least 175000 miles on it. Has this happened to anyone else with only 3500 miles on it and what is the likely hood of it happening again. Thanks,

Mike

if they reprogramed the computer, it isnt an electrical problem...but it may be nothing...if it does it again...then i would be worried

What were the error codes stored into the computer? (Sometimes they print this on the work order) When the check engine light stays on, this means the computer has stored an error code or codes and your dealer will be able to see what the problem is or was by these codes.

I'm not sure what the error code was. I really never looked

There is a SB for that problem. My wifes did the same thing and they reprogramed the computer. That was over a year ago and hasn't had a problem after that.

I had that happen to me in an older Blazer a few years ago right after a gas fill. The check engine light came on and the engine stalled. It took a while to get it started again, and even after that, it ran terrible for that whole tank of gas. It was fine after the next fillup though.

In the new ones, I read in the owners manual that the check engine light will come on now if you forget to put the gas cap back on after a fill. Is that true?

Terryteva, Over the years, GM has been sorting out conditions like you describe with our bevolved Trailblazers & Envoys. In defense of this statement, other GM model lines and other manufacturers, have too been plagued with conditions like you've experienced. Less and less programming updates are performed to the Trailblazer/Envoy line as we discuss current year models. There are some reprogramming updates for the '04 year model; specific to your condition, I do not know. Being a low mileage, recent year model vehicle, there are a few areas of concern. As a previous "poster" indicated, knowing the trouble code(s), even if not duplicable @ the dealership is important. Places I would "stick my nose" is accelerator position sensor/throttle actuator, crankshaft position variation(s) and ignition switch circuit. Be sure to "pay presence of mind" to the condition; (vehicle hot or cold, condition occurs @ idle/brake on, or while accelerating, @ xx MPH. Should this condition occur again (hopefully not). The more information you can bring to your dealer: the better the chance of an accurate repair.

Yes, true. I had it happen to me in a 98 Blazer as well. I found out if you don't click the gas cap closed at least 3 times after a fill, some sensor will think there's gasses escaping from the tank and throw a code.

I HAVE BEEN WORKING AS A L1 ASE CERTIFIED TECH FOR 16 YEARS. THE PROBLEM THAT YOU HAD IS DUE TO THE ECM GOING THROUGH THE LEARNING PROCEDURE. WITH ALL BRAND NEW CAR/SUV/TRUCKS THERE WILL BE A PERIOD WHERE IT HAS TO BREAK IN,IF YOU READ YOUR OWNERS MANUAL IT WILL EXPLAIN IT FURTHER.BUT ONCE THE DTC/CODE IS CLEARED BY THE DEALER AND DOES NOT COME BACK ON.THE PROBLEM WAS FIXED. SHOULD THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COME BACK ON TAKE IT TO YOUR DEALER ASAP.THEY HAVE A LOT OF UPDATES AND RECALLS THAT ARE NOT MADE PUBLIC UNLESS ITS AN SEFETY RELATED ISSUE. SO CALL AND ASK IF THERE ARE UPDATES/RECALLS FOR YOUR VIN #.THEY ARE LISTED BY MAKE/MODEL AND VIN#. HOPE THIS HELPS...
OH YEAH I WORK AT A DEALERSHIP, I KNOW ALL OF THE INSIDE SECRETS...

Welcome Big Hustler.

Riddle me this-

My SES light wont go off. There error code is P030 misfire on the # 2 cylinder. After replacing the plugs and ignition coils it is still misfiring (according to the pc) only on start up. And the SES light wont go off.

I have replaced the gas cap

I have run GM fuel injector/valve cleaner

Im ready to push this SOB off a cliff if this light doesnt go off.

Any thoughts?

Welcome, Big Hustler...
Let me add a little ficticious fun to this... The vehicles' been in the shop 3 times, the vehicle is out of warranty and the customer has spent enough money... It's 3:30 P.M. on Friday, it's 90+ degrees in shop, underhood temperatures exceed 200+ degrees and the service manager wants to know what's gonna fix it....Oh by the way...the customer is waiting to leave on a trip with the family...sound kinda familiar???...kinda like "inside secrets"??? LOL

if there is a misfire code, before changing the plugs you should have run a dio with a scan tool, you need to know what the freeze fram data is at the time of the actual misfire. since it just missing on #2 its possible it may have a timing problem.have you had a timing chain installed? have a dio done at the dealership its needs to be on a scan tool, when it misfires.there are several other thing that will cause this
