According to mygmlink.com, this is the only service needed (besides oil and the basic stuff) at 50k miles?? Is that correct? If so, what exactly does that mean?

This means drain and refill your transfer case. There are seperate drain and fill plugs on it. Use only GM Auto-trak II oil. IIRC, it uses just over 1.5qts.

Yep, I did mine at 49K when I changed every other fluid (except power steering which I need to do eventually).
Only use GM AutoTrak II fluid otherwise your TC will never work again, seriously. It is the only fluid that works in them. In mine I put about 1.8L in it, buy 2L of it from the dealership for like $10-12 per L.
Ohh, and make sure you have a 3/8" hex drive bit before attempting to remove the fill and drain plugs (remove fill first).
anyone have pics of the locations of the plugs?

where abouts does this sit in the truck? I thought I changed this yesterday but I accidentally changed the front diff fluid. opps. so I found that out and put the right fluid in the front diff but I couldn't find this? I think I was looking to far forward on the truck.

Should be right under your drivers seat.

Just did mine this past weekend... What a pain in the a$$ to refill!!! Next will be the front and rear diff fluid... Are these easier to refill?

Except for the part about the locking hub, this is an overall diagram of a 4WD system. IMHO, nobody should own a vehicle without reading some elementary "How It Works" kind of sites or books.
