I'm willing to bet that the shroud won't fit on the truck with that optima yellowtop battery. :m2:

Actually the shroud has nothing to do with the way the battery sits. If you wanted to you can always put the battery cover back on. Sorry no help on part # yet

really? I wasn't sure since there is a crossmember that usually goes across the battery box; and I don't see that piece on his truck either. :undecided

Ok this is a picture of another persons truck with the black shroud I am talking about, not the battery box. This piece goes across the width of the engine bay covering the radiator and headlamp housings.

We knew what you meant. I still say it may have something to do with the mods that the previous owner has done under the hood. Can't help you on a part number though; maybe call a GM dealer? :undecided

All right... going off of this picture... I have a question.
See (what I would call a stabilizer bar) that comes across the battery on these pictures?
On my TB, I have one on the other side, coming across the airbox.
I have seen some on other TB's that don't have them at all.
Does anyone have any idea why there is such a variance of why they are there, or not, on one side or the other?
You're actually not missing anything, GM removed the shroud between the 2002 and 2003 model years. Just one of those things they decontented in 2003, along with the under hood light, glove box light, driver's dead pedal, etc.
I don't think that I've seen an Envoy with a brace over the air cleaner box and only on a limited number of TBs. It may have been removed to improve the frontal crash test results, many times a brace like that imparts too much force towards the passenger compartment. Come to think of it, I'm not sure I've seen one equipped with it since the 2002 model year either.....might be another decontent. - Anybody have the brace on a truck newer than 2002?

My 2002 LS has, well had, a brace only over the battery. When I got in a wreck and they replaced the OEM battery, they removed both the battery cover and also the brace over the battery. When asked about it, they stated "Oh, it's not needed, it's cosmetic." Cosmetic, eh? What's so cosmetic about it being under the hood. I personally would prefer it back in there...figure it had a purpose at some point (shrug).

The battery cover is there for a reason (If it could be deleted, GM would have done it themselves to save money) There is a little vent tube that goes in the cover to keep battery cooler. It is close to your fuse box. You paid to have truck fixed back to OEM, insist that it be replaced. I'm betting body shop was paid by insurance to replace, but by leaving off they are just putting that much more money in their pockets.
My very early (August 6, 2002 production) '03 Envoy had no shroud. Neither my '03 or my current '05 had a brace over the air filter box. Maybe only on XL and EXT's?

My 2002 LS has, well had, a brace only over the battery
Having just recently replaced my battery, I can say from my observation while it was apart that the brace across the top also helps hold the battery in place especially in a collision. It works together with the battery box, and of course the tray clamp holds the battery too. Brace fits into a groove on top of the box. Box has moldings in the top that rest on top of the battery and hold it. I would think these parts are relatively important thing to put back and I would insist they do so, and replace the vent tube too. Purpose of insurance is to put you back like you were before the wreck. They have not fulfilled their obligation IMO.
Like Envoy Fan said, if GM could delete those parts and save a couple $$ they would, knowing how they constantly decontent items to save a buck or two.
About the "shrowd", (baffle, molding) piece across the radiator support on '02s, I see in some of the SS pics, that has returned on the '06 SS?

Must be because the owner paid a premium over the other TB's.... Wish I could afford to own and drive an SS...
