Hello All...

Have a noise that I have been able to troubleshoot, hoping someone else has knowledge to point me in the right direction.

While the A/C is on, there is a loud clattering upon acceleration, especially as the RPMs get higher. Turn the engine off, presto, the noise is gone.

Thinking it might be a tensioner or fan clutch. Any thoughts.

My TB is a 2004, with 51k miles. Surely its not time to start replacing parts already???

Thanks!

you mean you turn off the AC and the noise is gone?
Is it a I6 or V8?
Hmmmmm, the only thing that comes to mind, is I have a 1970 V8 monte carlo, that at one time, from a standing start, or very hard acceleration when moving, would make a clattering sound. Only in forward gears. Never in reverse ( i could burn rubber all day in reverse).
Then one day I noticed that the fan blades were slightly bent at the tips, they had been hitting the fan shroud..... the cause?
Broken engine mount... during hard acceleration/RPMs, the engine produced enough torque to actually lift the engine.... it lifted enough the fan would hit the shroud.
Replaced the mount.... problem fixed...
