i am going to call tomorrow to get the exact weight of these puppies. hopefully it is considerably less than the stock 20s.

what do you folks think! mind you, i am in this for the performance, and not so much for the looks. i do like the stock 20s though, too!

Just curious as to whether your 18 inch wheels will clear the brake caliper and rotor package?? :undecided

Those are nice rims...I looked into 20's but in chrome, and they were discontinued a while back...I'm not sure about gray 18's though...Good luck and they are a very nice rim...Nostalgic looking...

Personally, I would never get wheels that were smaller than stock. No matter what the weight difference. :m2: I'll be getting performance work done, and I'm gonna be runnin 22s again. Don't get me wrong they're nice wheels but I don't think 18's would look right on an SS with a "meatier" tire. Don't sacrifice the look for minimal gain in performance.

you could put those rims in a 20" on the rear, and a 18" in the front..:undecided

Only if its a 2WD. I still wouldn't do that.

I think the 2002 proto TBSS with it's 275/18's looks way better than our 255/20's. I can't post pics from work and can't find a link to any pics on google, maybe someone else has them on their computer?

I think the money would be better invested into something that will actively increase your horsepower (like heads) versus wheels which will passively make your vehicle quicker by less rotational mass. ;)

Is that the red one ? or the silver ?

Red one. Actually the tires are 295/45/18's, even wider! IMO they look great.

Here, I stumbled on this...

does anybody know how much play we have in our wheel/tire mass height? i dont wanna mess with the ABS when doing this. what about the tire PSI sensors. i read some people have problems with them and others dont.

thanks!

Ask you and you shall receive...lol

sorry it looks so crappy...i figure rather then spend time looking for a side shot of a Silver TBSS and putting the rims on...i changed the black one to silver...sort of...looks kinds of platinum white...but you get the idea...

A TBSS does not look right with an 18" rim, the rim looks too small for the truck.

IMHO, you'd have to drop it on the 18's to keep the sleek look of the stock TBSS. Nice choice of wheel though, classic.

To be honest, if it was my truck, I would keep the stock 20's but its your truck and you do with it what you want....:)

B52GUNNER

I don't think it would look bad as long as you maintained the overall diameter of the tire the same.

I like the 20's. I just am not that impressed with the factory finish. As far as performance the lower rotational mass is a good thing, but come on...it's almost a 2-1/2 ton SUV...are you planning on taking out the seats, a/c, insulation, and lightening the overall vehicle. It's not a race car and it won't compete with the 10-12 second rice burners, nor was it designed to. It is a fun vehicle built to let those of us who like suv's to have a little sport in our sport utility vehicle. That is my opinion and my opinion only...and we all know what opinions are good for.

I plan on leaving the 20" rim's I have for the street. I know 18" will work with no issues if you have the correct offset. Says offset is +40mm 6x5 bolt pattern. The main reason for having a set of 9x18" or 9.5x18" wheels (extra for the track) is they make good drag radials in 17" & 18" sizes. My Hemi truck I use to race had a matching set of Boss 304 wheels 20" street with Hankooks for the street. I put the matching 18" wheels with the Nitto's (NT555R) drag radials on before going to the track. They are DOT DR's and speed rated to 148 mph. I went from a 2.10 60ft. to a 1.83 now take what ever time you save in the 60ft. x 2 and that is how much faster 1/4 mile time you will run. A no brainer if you are a racer if not save your money. Only racers understand these things & I am a racer first & everything else next. My 305-45-18" Nitto's are the same dia. as our stock 20" tires are so my speedo will also stay the same. The can be adjusted for motor run's or nitrous runs by adding or taking out some tire pressure. On motor run's I keep them at about 36lbs & with nitrous about 26lbs depending on the track condition. My foot print is about 11" to 11.5". The lighter the rim the less mass and the better times you will run or dyno.
Also at the track run 50lbs pressure in the front tires for less rolling resistance all these things help & add up when running your best time. I have not seen a 22" tire run as fast of time as a 18" or 20" like I said all the good drag radials are only in 17" or 18" sizes. My 18" with drag radials on my truck saved about 20 to 25lbs per wheel over stock 20's. (2WD only)

i still like those 18's, but the 20's are really some lookers too. plus my wife loves the 20's. i already ruined the exhaust note with the cam and long tube headers (according to her), so i dont know if i should ruin the wheels she so dearly enjoys lol.

yes it will if you dont install sensors from the dealer before you mount the tire. if you dont everytime you start your DIC will say there is a problem, you can clear it but pops up everytime. not sure how much the sensors are but it's nice to see the psi in every tire

I think going to 18's is a killer idea.

Post up pics if you do, please. I'm not able to view any of these Photoshops for some reason...
