hey all, im running 20" Chroma rims from BSA, they're not an amazing manufacturer, but te style was really good....anyway, having the riims for quite sometime now, ive bumped into the curb a few times and thus pealed some of the chrome off...my rims are not chrome plated but are in fact sprayed on chrome.....

another reason i want to paint them a different colour is because once my car was in the garage, the mechanic told me i needed to give him the original tyres to do the alignment and balance...so i took them off and kept them in my garden for around a month, the maid kept watering the garden and also got water on the rims without drying it....this meant the sun, (which is all year round in Kuwait @ 50celsius give or take) were on them the whole time and now i see some scrapes on the rims as if it looks like oxidation......

I went to a few shops here and they told me the only way i can get them fixed is if i go all the way to Dubai...thats an 8hour drive and i need a dozen visas!!

can you guys help, should i take my rims to a shop and tell them to sand off the chrome and paint it? or do you think it'd be safe just to paint right over the chrome??

thanks in advance

I would try to find a powder coating shop. Much tougher than paint bond thicker coverage

i was thinking about that, do you think the powder would actually stick onto the chrome though? the worst thing happened today, my car stopped coz the starter was messed up and the guy who picked the car up drove it down the ramp and it my front right chrome rim...this means i have even more nasty marks on my chromes

im gonna take a look at the shops which do powder coating....i was thinking of asking the shop who fixed (well kinda) my trailblazer because they used some sort of filler which fixes dents etc on cars, so this might work...then get it sprayed over in another colour

I think in the powder coat process they have to sand blast the surface to ensure correct coverage and a smooth apperance after baking. I dont think anything can be done with the existing chrome in place :undecided

Yes, the chrome is taken off down to raw material most times.

They have to dechrome them then powder coat . I got mine done a year ago and they still shine. I paid around $550 to have them done. Check out my page on cardomain...got some pics on there. GL
