I'm pissed off and fustrated with my envoy, its an 04 with 70000 on it, i take very good care of it in and out. check engine light has been for a while, something about secondary air injection system, some of the fella's have helped me out a great deal and a big thanks to them. money is tight right now with me. so i cant take it to the dealer and them take me for a ride....i check/ replaces fuses, clean air valve thats just above the exhaust manifold, i have no idea what it could be. i know when the ses light comes (which I call the "gas eating monster light") i get bad fuel milage and no power what so ever. anyone that has any answer or something i can look at or replace. please help me out, thanks again

For the AIR system. I don't know of any other 'sensor' other than the valve bolted to the head, just above the exhaust manifold. If you can verify the blower does blow, then chances are good the valve is defective.

Dumb question but isn't the A.I.R. system covered by the 8/80,000 emissions warranty? ..... Its part of the catalytic system, pulls air in from the intake tube and routes it either to the exhaust manifold or into the catalytic converter, depending upon the model. (I believe its into the catalytic on an Envoy/TB, but my '02 doesn't have it to check).

NOPE! the secondary air injection is NOT covered under 8/80000 emissions, believe me i checked with 5 different dealerships... I wonder if I should start something with GM and see if I can get them to do anything for me......

I would call GM immediately! I called and tried to get them to fix my wiper motor for free b/c I feel that the recall performed on it never fixed the problem. Anyway, they told me they generally double the length of the warranty (to 72,000 miles I think, isn't the factory warranty 36,000?) and then allow repairs to be made. Since I have over 85,000 miles now, I was outside of the extended warranty period. But with 70,000 miles, you're still inside that range. It's worth a shot, and their help center is extremely helpful. Even though I didn't get the result I wanted, I was very pleased with their customer service.
The number is 1-800-222-1020, then select the option for "Warranty Information" or something of that sort.

didnt I read something about that air injection thing where they would get moisture buildup in them- as in it would get water puddled inside and cause failure?
Ive read 2 post in the back where this was the cause (moisture)

after the one guy here posted the onfo on the valve, heres what the original poster in chevytalk said..
The problem ended up to be the check valve and they did replace it. So far so good. If you need the numbers this is what the dealer replaced.
# 12574379 pump 3.660
# 12575655 valve 3.670
# 24577193 gasket 3.675

It just blows filtered air right at the exhaust manifold. No air plumbing goes to the cat. I'd rather not have it, but it does seem to be rather simple for an air injection system (not a whole lot of parts).

i do hear the pump come on at cold start up in the morning, therfore i should just replace the valve, it seams not to be opening like it should. i pulled off the air line that comes from the pump and into the valve it had moisture in it, like i said i think the pump is working just no were for the moisture and pumped air to go, cause the valve isnt opening. ?? maybe i dont know  why have even have it. :undecided

Joel, does it blow the air into the exhaust manifold or just at it? ..... On most vehicles the idea of the AIR system is to introduce add'l air into the exhaust system to help burn the unburned hydrocarbons and aid in catalytic reaction for a 'cleaner' exhaust. (Or that's what the purpose of the AIR system was originally). I don't see how blowing air at the manifold would do much of anything, might cool the manifold a bit, but the exhaust isn't going to be affected substantially.....couple degrees cooler, but you'd think cooler exhaust temps might reduce cataytic reaction slightly. (Especially in cold weather).

I worded that poorly! :o The air enters a port in the cylinder head that introduces air just upstream of the exhaust manifold. Those extra oxygen molecules then do their magic helping the cat get hotter faster.

I just got off the phone with GM and the helpful lady said she will do some research and see if they can cover it under 8/80000. if they do that would be a big headache off my shoulders.

Here's a good one for the resources section!
Per my 2005 trailblazer's "Warranty and Owner Assistance Information" booklet (in the side pocket in your black plastic owners manual binder), page 22: Secondary Air Injection System: Air Pump and Check Valves are covered under the 2yr/24Kmi nonsense (total crap), but I bet a dealer would cover it under 3/36. Sorry man! originally I thought the AIR system was covered under 8/80! I gotta learn to read.
