Has anyone noticed the HUGE fill port on the front differential? What's up with that? I swear you could drop a golf ball in there. It's got this giant machined steel hex head fill plug, then a tiny little hex head drain bolt. The drain is so small I dont see how you could even get a metal filing out of it. The transfer case has two identical steel plugs with an allen wrench recess in them, then the rear diff on mine has just a fill plug that accepts a 3/8” wratchet handle. Nothin' like consistancy all the way around. I went through and checked all the fluid levels and condition on my 2005 @ 21Kmi, all three lubes seemed a little dark, but the insides looked clean on all three thru the fill holes w/ a flashlight. I buttered up the plugs with never-seize and buttoned everything back up for now. How are you guys filling these back up? Squeeze bottle with a hose, or suction gun? They look like a horrible mess to fill.:worried:

The hardest one to fill is the transfer case. I used a squeeze bottle and ended up having to purchase 3 liters of fluid instead of 2. I couldn't tilt the squeeze bottle up high enough to get more than half of the fluid out so I just kept refilling and then ended up throwing away almost the entire 3rd liter that I had purchased. :(

I did the same thing that the previous poster did for my rear diff. *shrugs* As long as I got enough in there.

I used a suction gun and lost little fluid in the transfer. It's a PIA to keep having to refill and get back under the vehicle, but at least it worked. Would have been nice to have a drain on the rear differential instead of having to pull the cover.

How about one of those oil cans with the trigger

How about one of those oil cans with the trigger..

You might be on to something there! :thumbsup:You can get those cheap enough at wally or harbor freight that you can keep it just for stanky gear oil service.

Most of the auto stores sell a pump with a plastic hose that will screw on to to the bottle. I bought one about three years ago and it works great.
