As has already been stated.

The V8 is available in the SWB TB for the first time starting in 2006 but only in the LT model. I waited patiently for 4 years because I wanted the V8 but didn't care for the school bus version of the TB.

According to the Chevy literature and web site, it is available in both the LS and LT models for 2007. Of course the V-8 has been available in the Rainier, which only comes in a short wheelbase version, since 2004.

I know on the "Build your own" on Chevy.com they only show the I6 when you choose the engine. Something is screwed up.

The 2006 "Build your Own" had problems too. If you look under some of the tabs, it lists the V-8 under both the LS and the LT for 2007.

Hey, I resemble that remark. And the 4 of us in my house love our EXT. :p

:x I'm not ripping on the Ext but it's just too long for my taste and I always thought it felt much longer driving it too. I did contemplate the Ext before ordering mine though. Not so much for the extra seating but more for the larger cargo area.

EXT's 129" wheelbase is just 1" shorter than a Suburban's 130" wheelbase!!

Exactly. I've driven Suburbans for years and honestly I thought they felt more agile than the Ext.

Cant vouch for that, but Im not a big fan of the EXT. When they first came out in late 02 I was bummed I didnt wait for the larger storage area, but when I got in one, it was a lot different to drive.

Sorry, but I would only get a SWB GMT-360 platform, although Matts and Drews LWB trucks are awesome (plus others too)!

Hey I'm new to the board. I am picking up a 2006 short wheel base TB in LS trim with a 5.3 next week. I opted for the 5.3 for towing purposes.

2006 or 2007? The V8 wasn't available with the LS trim for 2006.

EXT's 129" wheelbase is just 1" shorter than a Suburban's 130" wheelbase!!

And GM actually added 13" of it because of the 3rd row seat instead of stuffing a 3rd row seat in the SWB model.

Anyway, the LWB is now history. I do like the looks on the SWB better and the SWB does have a better ride, but the SWB can't carry 4x8 sheets of plywood behind the front seats also. It also can't drop off 5 friends and their luggage (15 pcs) at the airport also.

The SWB model also seems to be affected by towing more than the LWB. 2nd seat passengers also like that the air con in the EXT blows on them from the roof instead of the small center floor vents.

V-8 in a SWB is definitely better and that is not counting the SS version. Back in 2002-2004, people were saying "I wish they would put the 5.3 in the SWB". Well GM actually listened for once.

That is really weird!! When I ordered mine back in late Feb/Early March, we built them up at the dealer on the computer and if you didn't choose the LT trim, the 5.3 wasn't available. They must have changed that later in 2006. What's your build date?

#1 I would never put plywood in my interior

#2 Less seating capacity (expecially with 2 cars seats installed) means I don't ever have to be the one driving. :D

Actually, I wrapped the plywood with some old blankets so it did no damage in the end. At least it has that capability to carry similar size objects (entertainment center).

I also have a 06 SWB 2wd LS TB with the 5.3L DOD my build sheet is exact as the one above. the only difference in his vs my build sheet is that i have the
HD locking rear option with 3:73's
the optional 17" wheels
tranny cooler
and HD towing package

we bought this TB new in October of 05

I will say it was the only one on the lot of about 50. And i to thought you could not purchase a SWB TB with the 5.3. BUT i guess i to was wrong as we have had it for a year now.

I have been keeping my eyes open for any boltons. It looks as though stanless works is now making a set of headers for the 6.0L SS that i am hoping will bolt up to my 5.3L. I know there headers are great for the LS1 cars that i have.

I'm just bustin balls. :D I have one of those HD trailer hitch racks that I use or if it's too big for that I use my 5x12 trailer. I'm very anal about only hauling people and "clean" cargo items :D I cringe anytime I see a dog inside a car drooling all over!

Would have thought the LWB would have the better ride because of the longer wheelbase :undecided

My parts guru told me the exhaust manifolds on my '05 5.3L were the same part number as the '06 TB SS. He did say the cats were different.

I would have thought the same thing, but several articles I read said this very thing. I think however, that they are referring to it having a mushy ride and handling characteristics, instead of outright smoothness.
