Less than 2000 miles--right front door speaker is gone!!(and no, I don't "crank it up"). So much for "Bose Premium Sound System". Did a search--looks like others have had this problem. What would be the best Bose compatible replacement speaker? Rob

the right front door speaker is the woofer...what are your bass levels set at??? maybe although you are not turning up the volume you have the bass set too high

Correct Jimmy--still under warrantee. Don't think the bass level is really that high. I would think that a properly designed system would be a little more rugged. Never changed the bass setting from new, but do see that the bass is bumped a little passed the center of adjustment. Rob

I have had mine for a little over a year and have had no problems with the speakers. I understand what they are though too. They SUCK! You have to turn down the bass if you don't want them to blow.

My right front went out around 7500 mile. Dealership replaced it under warranty.

With that being said, is there a more "bullet proof" speaker that will allow the full potential of the Bose system. A search on this pointed to Infinity speakers as one option--good/bad/others?? Rob

See, this is what pisses me off, the Bose system GM used from 02-04 was AWESOME for a stock system (well factory upgrade system). In late 04 GM changed the amp and it sounds like crap now. If I get an SS the speakers are the first thing I will be replacing because all Ive heard is how much worse they sound than the 02-04 speakers did.

Just another way GM is cutting corners...

Guest I'll get it fixed under warrantee and see if this speaker was maybe substandard(to begin with). If that doesn't work, looks like Pioneer might be an option(articles section)? Rob

Bose home equipment is garbage, until you get to 901 land. In a car, they're much better than the stock Delco. If you listen to XM, Sirius or MP3's, there's nothing that's going to make that compressed crap sound good. The only way I'd ever upgrade the Bose in my car is if they make a car system that plays DVD-A and SACD.

you're trying to say that an upgraded system won't sound any better than your bose setup because mp3 compression is the limiting factor? you can't be more wrong. sattelite radio? ok i'll buy that. but you're trying to tell me that you can distinguish between mp3 and the cd original in a quiet room, much less a moving car, but can't tell the difference between a bose system and a system that actually has relatively flat response? for that matter, the difference between dvd-a and cd in a moving car? it's crazy talk.

I'm not saying that it won't sound better, just that the difference doesn't merit me ripping out my stock system and installing a new one. The better the system, the easier it is to hear the audio compression loss. I have a higher end Pioneer head unit with Klipsch speakers and a sub in my boat. It is very easy to distinguish between XM, MP3 (256K) and CD's by sound quality alone. I know I can record MP3 up to 320KB, but at that point any audible gains are outweighed by file size.
You seem like an audio guy. Have you ever listened to DVD-A and SACD on a high end home set-up? It's night and day compared to CD, let alone MP3. MP3 is almost unbearable to listen to on a high end system.
