Mobil 1 synthetic 5w-30 since my first oil change.
I just switched over to Mobil 1, 5W-30. I have noticed an ever so slight increase in mpg, about 1.

Castrol Synthetic (German spec, can sometimes be found at Autozone). There's a lot of info about oil on my old stomping grounds, LS1Tech.com.
Here's a good site to check out for lots of oil info. http://www.bobistheoilguy.com/

Yes I run 0W40 Mobil1 in my LS2....I've heard Mobil1 0W40 and Amsoil 0W-30 are better protection than Mobil1 5W30. I use a K&N filter.

Switched to Amsoil 5W-30 Heavy Duty Diesel with a K&N filter, and have noticed my I6 has a tendency to rev much higher now, and it seems to pickup a little faster.
just did my first oil change. use redline 5w30.

I just set up an appt. with a close friend/professional mechanic for the switch-over from dino oil to Amsoil...I am primarily doing it because my truck will be started in my cold Central NY driveway this winter...He could not provide me with a definite yes or no(after all, he's not a GM employee) to the question...Will the introduction of any synthetic(although I am already sold on the Amsoil)motor oil jeopardize my 3/36 warranty???...I am fairly certain that some grades of Amsoil are approved for use in our engines...It just turned 10,000 miles and he said that he will do it for me for $70.00 with filter....I've read a lot on this, but I need to hear a real-life story on this subject...C'mon,if you've been there, I want to hear from ya's...Thanx way in advance...P.S: As you can see, I haven't asked my dealer yet, so as not to raise any suspicions, if ya' know what I mean....~Eric~

The owners manual says to use a proper weight oil (my 02 tb is either 5w30 or 10w30) and the oil must have the American Petroleum Institute starburst symbol on it. If the oil meets these guidelines it will not affect your warranty as long as you change it using the oil life monitor (don't trust) or before.
My warranty was up last year, I use Mobil 1 now.

Thanx,dpm6836....I don't trust the oil life monitor either....My mechanic sez to bring it back to him at about every 7,500 miles or so, just like he does on his own pickup...Anyone else have any more input to add to the thread????

I use Mobil 1 in the TB and Protégé. The oil is changed every 6 months or 5,000 km on the TB and every 4 months on the Protégé which would be 2,000km. I don't trust the sensor on the TB and since I use to change my cars oil every three months or 3,000km with dino oil I now change it less frequently with synthetic. The Protégé has 40,000 km on it and it is 3 years old, I have a warranty for 7 years 160,000 KM bumper to bumper which requires oil changes every 4 months or 6,000km which ever occurs first, no exceptions as per Mazda.

I highly doubt it since the Corvette and GTO come with mobil1 from the factory. :)
The Stealership I use when needed agreed with dpm6836 that as long as the API rating is correct, you are good to go. I have used Mobil 1 5w-30wt in my vehicles for a couple of years now, and did not notice any leaks or seepage. I will be waiting for the 5000 mile mark to put in my new TB, general concensus being that the engine is " broken in" by then. In my last daily driver my 94 s blazer, I changed right after acquiring it. Made a significant difference in idle quality and engine temp, although it had 105,000 miles on it. :D

Will you be changing oil anytime before the 5K mark? Or are you just keeping the factory oil in till the 5K mark and going to Mobil 1?

Anybody use this or think about using it? Mobil 1 Truck & SUV 5W-40 Would we benefit from it at all compared to Mobil 1 5w-30. I am heading out to Lake George from Boston, Labor Day weekend and I am due for a oil change. Deciding what I want to do.

Well, I'm dropping my baby off at the mechanics tomorrow for an Amsoil infusion at precisely 10,000 miles on the odometer...Based on all the synthetic fans out there, I feel kinda' confident in this decision(thank y'all for the input)...Seeing that it will be my truck's very first trip to an "outside" shop(not the dealer),should I be asking my mechanic to be looking for anything else underneath while the old oil is draining out that could possibly be problematic??? I have 25 months exactly left on my 3/36 and have heard about some stuff "down under" going bad such as sway bar bushings(I have heard that "loose lumber" rattling a bit at certain speeds outta' the rear)...Any and all input from our little family here would be greatly appreciated!!! Realize that my mechanic is also a good friend of mine and would point out potentially factory warranty stuff and tell me to show the dealer...I just need a little checklist for him to use as a guideline for a quick peek while my rig is up on the lift getting it's Amsoil infusion...Thanks once again in advance!!! :) ~Eric~

I will change at the 2000 mile mark as it is new, than switch at 5000 to syn.
I expect a lot of comments, change oil 500 miles, etc. I must be honest, I have owned several new modern vehicles, and I realize that there is some debris, but my experience w/ the 1500-2000 mile rule has worked good for me. I have 1462 as of tonight, and I will change tomorrow after the mud flap mod.
