If it extended to 10 years would be good, but who drives 100,000 miles in 5 years? Sure some do but most people don't. They should have made it bumper-to-bumper 5 years, and 10yrs/100k on the drivetrain. THEN we'd have something.

Thats a great way to get people to buy GMs but with TBSS having the problem they have i think GM will go bankrupt after a year or two with all those SSs going in for service.

It's a step in the right direction. Atleast GM is getting quick on their feet to make some changes! 5/100 warranty is a cost effective way for GM to lure buyers, plus the warranty follows the car, not the owner! Hopefully the warranty stays. Remember the Chysler 7/70 from years ago? That went away once sales picked up.:worried: GM needs to keep coverage a knotch ahead of toyota, etc's 5/60.

Hehehee.. Jimmy, I dont think it could get any worse anyway.:( Resale should pick up a bit for used 2007's. 5/100 follows the vehicle just like the 3/36 did.

Just turned 84,000 on my 2004 LT. Only problem I had that required a dealer visit was a rear lift gate strut started leaking during the original 3/36,000 warranty.

Shows that they're hurting big time. They're trying to build confidence with the consumer. but yeah there goes resale value some more. Here in Canada I was just looking at the residual values on the 07's and not one car had over 34%. That's pretty sad. Most of the imports are at 44%. With this 0% finance/lease rates value is dropping big time so people are going to upside down on their cars for years. Pretty much have to offer a BIG warranty so people will buy.
It definitely is a buyers market out there and this makes it harder for private sellers. It is hard to sell a 1-3 year old vehicle when you can buy the same vehicle from the dealer with a 5/100k mile powertrain warranty.
And I have no troubles making 20,000 miles a year since I'm currently averaging around 30k miles per year since I recieved my license 23 years ago. And that is with 2 years in Korea and lots of temporary duty assignments (no vehicle). Having a baby boy did cut down the driving to around 15k a year but that is per vehicle.

Would be an interesting poll or survey of Trailvoy owners... how many miles a year do you drive your Trailvoy? Less than 10k, 10-15k, 15-20k, or more than 20k a year.

I'm sure they only did it to beat the guys over at ford. Ford extended the powertrain to I think 5 years, 70k a month or 2 ago.

Well, I might have to get an 07 SS, 5yr/100K is pretty good for a performance truck.:D
That way if I beat it up too bad, I can at least get it fixed for practically free (until I start with the internal modding).

I have had my 2005 Ascender since last Thanksgiving (it was a leftover with 67 miles) as of today I have 27,450 miles.

?????????????
Please explain. Are you saying an extended warranty would lower resale value?

No the resale on vehicles that don't have the 5/100k.

isn't it the same as when a car gets a better engine option or feature? it makes the older version less wanted...
I think tey should have done this a long time ago - maybe even do a 10/100 bumber to bumber. granted it will cost a bunch BUT sales would increase. Plus it would make Toy/Nis/Hon do the same

Sorry dude but Toy/Nis/Hon don't have to do it. Their cars sell like hotcakes. Just like Toyota, Nissan, & Honda never got on the "SUMMER CLEARANCE" this year. Now with GM at 0%, 5/100, low residuals, rebates, etc, the only people that will be buying are the ones that keep their cars for a long time. I switch every year or so my next isn't going to be from GM that's for sure.

Well if you buy a car that doesn't hold value, you'd end up seriously upside down when you go to trade in. He'd be better off leasing a Honda or BMW.

Right...but with a better warranty, better initial interest rate which allows you to pay off the car quicker and sell it cheaper because your not upside down, and the rebates which help with that also...wouldn't it be easier to sell in a year than say an 06 GM vehicle like the one he owns now???

Nope not at all. You will always be upside down. With a GM you never can catch yourself. I'm not dissing the domestics but it's true. The only way to benefit is keeping it for 10 years but the chances of it staying together is next to nill.
For proof in the pudding is I just bought 2 cars, a 05 Civic Si 10 months ago for $23000.00 and a 05 Pontiac Grand Prix GXP for $41000.00. The wife decided she wanted another new car. I have 16000 kms on the Civic and 20000 kms on the Pontiac. I wanted to trade the GXP in cause I hate it. The dealer would only give me $17000.00 for it. So I said what would you give me for my Civic? $21700.00 Done deal. I brought home a fully loaded 07 Honda Accord 6 Speed Coupe today decked right out from the dealer with full warranty.
Look up the meaning of "RICE" before some tard says it's rice.lol

Ok, but thats something that everyone knows already even though it's not always true (just did very well on my Mustang trade in) but it's also besides the point. You said "Now with GM at 0%, 5/100, low residuals, rebates, etc, the only people that will be buying are the ones that keep their cars for a long time. I switch every year or so my next isn't going to be from GM that's for sure." That implies that the new incentives will make the resale even worse and thats what I don't understand.

Incentives DESTROY a car's value. Who would ever want to buy a used car, when you can get a brand new one, with a longer warranty, over 10% off in rebates, and low interest rates? They give away the new cars so it makes everyone want the new ones, not a used model.
EDIT: I'm not big on Accords at all, but that car looks DAMN GOOD! I really like the way they designed the new coupes, very smooth quiet ride too!

I betcha when you trade in a 07 you'll get $3-$5000 less then what you'd normally get for your vehicle. That was a problem Dodge was having. Then they scaled it back. Theirs was a 5/100KM (5/60000 in States)
I also didn't quite like the looks of the Accord either but when I saw this one it changed my mind. The Interior is beautiful in it. Honda knows how to do attention to detail. My has the Carbon Fibre and aluminum trim all over the place in it. The leather seats just wrap you. I just hope it's a good car. The wife is happy with it so all is good.lol

I drive more then 20k miles per year but I spread it out among a 04 trailblazer, 04 pontiac aztec, 05 GTO and ahem...a 94 ford escort(only has 35k miles on it and I save it for the $3.00 gallon gas). I think I could definately get use out of a 100k warrenty over 5 years though. Thing is I have had two trailblazers now and (knock on wood) I have not had a single warranty problem with either one, not even something little. My first was an 02 with a very early build date and put 40k miles on it and now my 04 has 34k. I guess if it is a good car theoretically you should not even need a warranty.
