It's grainy but still gives you an overall look at a new GMC SUV, due out as a 2007 or 2008 model. This is from the Sept. issue of Popular Mechanics, and they're saying it's the next Envoy. I'm thinking it's actually an all-new vehicle I've heard rumors about.

Back in March this same vehicle appeared in Popular Mechanics:

I'm not sure how I feel about this view, but the artist sure could've come up with a better background. It looks like it's sitting in a deserted warehouse parking lot.
I think what they mean by "new type" of SUV is that it will be car-based, on GM's future minivan/sporty wagon platform called Lambda. This makes sense too, because that platform was designed for FWD or AWD. Plus I've heard rumors that GMC might be getting a minivan-type vehicle. We shall see...

Thanks for the pics! I was wondering what direction gmc would go with their new models. I looks pretty interesting. I like the new grill a lot. I kind of reminds me of an audi grill. I will have to see it in real life to really get a feel for it, but it looks pretty good to me.

The artist who drew that should get fired! He did not do justice to the Envoy and probably made future buyers dis-interested. :duh: If that is what the next Envoy should look like then they lost one customer in me. :worried:

Wow... didn't notice that on either picture... both top and bottom pictures don't have door handles or a line to indicate that there is a rear door.

Pretty interesting... only can imagine what the actual production vehicle will be like.
Hope they don't go too over the top... but continue to push the envelope.

The styling doesn't bother me, concepts are just that, usually freakish. What does bother me is the caption on the photo that says "Front- or optionall Four Wheel Drive".
Front wheel drive? Good bye tow rating.. They can't possibly do this to the Envoy, its got to be a replacement for the equinox or something like that.

thats got to be the Lambda X-over, Acadia, i believe. I like it though, maybe a good light truck replacement for my moms honda accord. plz no minivan for GMC.

I think you're right. I do not think the pics I posted at the beginning of the thread are the next Envoy. There's not a lot of info about the Acadia, but it is supposedly a car-based, crossover-type vehicle. It will be fairly large, offer an optional V8 and 3-row seating, and will be a modern alternative to a minivan. Sort of like the current Rendezvous only better. There will be Saturn (Outlook), GMC (Acadia) and Buick variants.
The next Envoy will NOT be car-based from what I understand. GMC would be shooting themselves in the foot if they did that. As for a GMC minivan, I shudder at the thought as well. However the more I think about it a nice crossover like the Acadia makes perfect sense, esp. with gas prices on the rise. GMC did have the Safari van (can't quite call that one a minivan), but I would hate to see the division get a soccer mom van like the Chevy Uplander. I don't think that will happen though.

I can safely say that the concept drawing posted is a huge leap in the WRONG direction.

Not to bad, but it is hard to tell what the 07's will look like when they make their minds up. Reminds of the Montero
