The Center diff in the TBSS is a type 3 torsen diff, basically only designed to be used as a center diff. The front and rear diffs are limited slips, which do have problems in this application. (Maybe the large number of groan/whine/grind threads.)
The SSR however, 2003 model for sure, has a torsen type 2 diff in the rear housing. Perfect for front and rear diffs.
So, does anybody know if the SSR diff assembly will fit and is suitable for the TBSS Rear and/or Front Diff? The Groaning would dissapear, and if it fit in both ends, it would be like mechanical Quadradrive.

FYI, the TB SS only has a rear LSD, the front is open. Thats why AWD can only spin 3 wheels on a burnout (really tough on the trans though).
As for stuffing a T-2 into the rear diff, thats an interesting idea, why would you do it? Then you would have a T-3 in the center with a T-2 in the rear diff.

The AM General Hummer, the real deal, has torsen (T-2) diffs front, and rear. (They don't need a torsen in the middle, because the front and rear axles always have one wheel on the ground. and hummers don't do drag launches) That way the power to each axle is sent to the wheel that can use it most. So, if you could send power to the wheel that needed it, power wouldn't go to a burning out a wheel, it would go to a pushing a forward wheel. Now, a T-3 Torsen has an ulterior motive, it divides torque between axles, it can be designed to split torque 45% 65% front and rear. That's why, and I don't know what the SS's split is, there is a T-3 in the middle of the SS.
Lets say it's 50/50.
So, the stock TBSS burning 3 wheels, is sending 50% of its torque to a locked axle in the rear (LSD) (25% per wheel) and the other 49% to the spinning wheel in the front (open diff). That's 1% for the non-spinning tire. Three tires are spinning, making smoke.
The SS with T-2 torsions in front and rear, and the t-3 in the middle, would be biasing torque to the NON SPINNING wheel. say 50% to the rears, 10% to the spinning tire in the front, and 40% to the wheel with traction. (Torsens multiply torque)
A TBSS with t-2's front and rear, and a t-3 in the middle, would launch, instead of spinning tires. It would place torque where it was needed.
Think of it as a drag spool that gives advantage to the side with grip.

Gotcha, would be an interesting swap if you can pull it off. Biggest issue is going to be the 7.25" front axle because there isnt much clearance up there.
