View Full Version : Updated Peak Power - 395hp
Note that Chevy has updated the advertised peak horsepower number for the TBSS slightly: 395hp  , up a touch from the earlier spec of 391hp.
As I posted a couple weeks back, it's also now listed on Chevy.com as a "Premium Fuel Recommended" vehicle.

No suprises on the Premium fuel, its an LS2 for goodness sake. Its funny though, I've lost count of how many salesman have told me you can run regular unleaded as a daily driver and then just "fill er' up with premium when you hit the track." Talking to owners of LS2 cars will confirm that anything less than premium makes the engine run like crap. My brother's LS1 TransAm absolutely MUST have premium or it knocks like you wouldn't believe. Ugh, and just as gas is inching closer to $3/gallon for premium. Anyone else notice that gas is now DOUBLE the price it was 12 months ago??? Or try this on for size, the cost of a barrel of crude has gone down over the last 7 days but the cost of gas is continuing to rise. Anyone else feel like they are getting screwed??? I think our economy is headed for a train wreck, but that is just my opinion.

The current gas problem stems from demand higher than refining capacity. Crude may go down but if the facilities aren't available to refine it, gas prices will stay high until demand goes down.

time for everyone to just call off work for a week, and stay home with the family....that should drive the demand down!

Actually, demand isn't affecting current gas prices. Explain how gas companies are getting their highest profits ever when we are paying the highest prices for gas ever. Not building refineries gives them 1 of 100 reasons to raise gas prices.
Tomorrow will be the dog crossing the street caused the delivery delay excuse to raise prices another 4 cents.
The government will also not do anything until it affects the economy. Not buying anything will cause gas prices to fall.

Your statements are contradictory and illogical, but they reflect the "current wisdom" of the press and others that don't know what they are talking about. Those broad statements have no basis in fact.
Actually, demand isn't affecting current gas prices.
That is simply not true.
Current US Gasoline Demand is 9.4 M bbl/day

Current US Gasoline Production is 8.8 M bbl/day

Refinery Operating rates are at 98%, one of the highest ever.
Explain how gas companies are getting their highest profits ever when we are paying the highest prices for gas ever.
Profits are up on a $ basis but barely up on a % basis. Oil Co. profit margins are below Banks, Pharnaceuticals, Software, Financial Services, Health Care, and Insurance industries. Oil Co. Profit Margins are about average for the whole market. If that weren't true Oil Stocks would be soaring. They are not.

This arguement never holds water. If I don't build it they will come. Nonsense.
Finally the Government will not and should not get involved. Every time they do it's worse for us.

I'm not going to let this disagreement take off into an arguement, but I'm not basing my opinion on the press' "current wisdom".
However you should find some profit charts from 2005 to base your criticism of me on before you call my statements "contradictory and illogical". Gas companies are limiting supply to control demand which makes us pay more at the pump. Why should they build more refineries to increase supply and lower demand? They wouldn't be able to raise prices an average of 2 cents a week. We can cut demand down, but supply will also go down.
I agree it is best that our government stays out of things. Unfortunately, they are one of the biggest contributors to high gas prices (refine different types of gas, gas taxes, etc). Lower demand after summer is supposed to drop prices correct? Well they won't drop because the governement requires gasoline made for the winter. The gas companies are not going to suck up the additional costs.
I agree with Jallshouse, we should all stay home for a week and do nothing. That would drive prices down because the economy would be in trouble. It is heading in that direction anyway.

I just dropped $90.00 to fill up my TB and my 98 Malibu. This is a per week cost and it is taking a huge chunk out of my "extra" play money.

Well since we are on the gas topic...It cost me exactly $50 to fill up my trailblazer a few days ago. I was ticked off enough that it cost that much but when I got home i started thinking...
The gas was $2.56 per gallon.
$50/2.569=19.462
Ok, my gas light came on just about one mile before the station so I probably had a good 15 miles left. My truck is a very early 2003 so it has the 18(correct me if I am wrong) gallon tank.
There is no way on God's green earth that I put 19.462 gallons in my truck.
I think I am going to start buying gas elsewhere. It sounds like they are ripping me and everyone else who buys gas there off.

If your TB was built after August 8, 2002, it should have the 22 gallon tank. What is your build date? Build month on drivers door sticker. VIN will get you build date at dealership.

It is heading in that direction anyway. This doesn't make any sense though. Because the week after demand is going to be right back where it was, even higher because everyone will be playing catch up. Not to mention even getting 25% of America to "gas strike" is impossible.

I think we need to have a separate thread about the gas thing. It seems to be the topic of everyones conversations lately...
