I have a 2004 TB I6 Extended (7 passenger). I usually bring my cars into a shop and have them throw on what ever pads and rotors are the flavor of that day. I want to have a little more control on the pads and rotors that I am putting on this truck because I tow. My question is if I were to order on line do I request any hardware kit, shims, lube brackets etc???

Should the kit be included? if its not should I look at another brand of pads?

I am looking at Rock auto for these parts and this is the response I got. Otherwise noted? I just wanted a yes or no answer. The more information button on the Rock Auto description connects you over to the manufacturer web site which indicates shims and lube that does not mean that this guy will include it. The Ac Delco pads looks like they include the parts.

"ACDelco and Akebono both produce high quality pads, so it's really a matter of personal preference there. Installation hardware is generally not included unless it is otherwise noted."

Thanks

If the pads require shims they will have them and as far as the lube your refering to, im assuming for the sweaking, you can get a little tube of that for as little as .99 at your local auto parts.....

The shims come with the pads, the squeak lube can be picked up for a cheap price, if you are doing the job yourself, I would highly recommend that you get a tube of disc brake grease .99 at Murray's, autozone etc.
Clean the pins and where they go into, with brake cleaner and regrease them real good.
Disc brakes are floating calipers, if they cann't move freely they bind and wear out real fast.

Here's my opinion on pads and rotors: if you are heavy on the brakes they are gonna wear out quicker, so if you spend 2 grand on rotors and pads and calipers, good luck. I spend 100 bucks a pair if they go bad after about 30,000 mi., Im not out 2 grand and I also believe drilled and cross cut rotors cannot be turned. So you end up spending that all over again.
It's your money spend it as you want, for 2 grand I can get other toys I want. :D

Total cost for four wheels $600.00 (Canadian). Two grand is a little steep for me I have other toys to buy too. I just need good breaks because I tow and the GM one only last 25,000 Kilometers (front). So I would spend more to get a better brake that lasts over 25,000 kms.
