View Full Version : Totalled SS...
Well, last night started great and ended badly as you can see.
I met some great TX SS owners at the Vector tuning and then ran my best times at the track  and on the way home this jerk cuts me off and the rest is history.......
I dont know if it is "totalled" until the insurance adjuster comes out next week but it does not look good. I am really hoping it is because I dont think it will ever be the same. The entire left side suspension is snapped and it looks like the frame is bent. The motor kept running for a few minutes after until I realized it was still on. :D Gotta love Chevrolet!
Thank God I was not injured! I have the gap insurance that GM sells (I am soooo glad) so it should all pan out if it is totalled.

DAMN!!!! I am so sorry to hear this!!!!! But I am very glad to hear you are ok! From the looks of it, it will probably be totalled. Also, thank god for side airbag. From the way it look, you hit really hard and hit the driver side very hard. Thank those side airbags. Without them you would have had some head trauma.
I agree, guys back off on asking for parts. This guy went through hell and back lastnight. Give him a chance to clear his head before you start asking for parts. Let him do what he needs to do with the insurance. If they are availible, I am sure he will post up and let us all know.
Again I am glad you are ok!!!

Im really glad you are okay man.
Just looked at the pics, and wow, I have wanted to see the side airbags deployed before, but not in an actual crash. I cant believe you are okay, your SS took some serious damage. IMO, there are too many things wrong for insurance to not total it.

I 10 and Thompson-West bound
you can see my impact and scrape right after the bridge
Thanks for all of the kind words out there! :)
I agree its just metal but it was a whole lotta fun metal! God was on my side last night. Not even a scratch. The story goes...I was cruising on the highway on the inside lane and a silver pickup (Dodge) starts to pass me on the middle lane and decides he wants my lane about half way past me. I hit the brakes and swerved to the left a bit just barely missing his back end. I then counter corrected and went a little too far and ended up in the middle lane. Well, low and behold a car was waiting for me that I could not see because the truck was blocking it during his lane change. So, I then had to hit the brakes (hard this time) and swerve again to my left. Well, that was all she wrote after that one. I ended up losing traction and the left front end hit the concrete barrier in the middle and then I just kept on bouncing and scraping for a bit before coming to a stop. I hit no one else! PHEW!!!
I am pricing 07's right now but it looks like it would be $4k more for the same vehicle!?!? Once I hear from the adjuster I will reach out to a dealer to see what they can do.
I know some of you are hungry for parts and if it is totalled, I will do my best to assist. I have never totalled a vehicle before so I dont know what the process is if they decide to do it. Is it mine or the junkyards or????
I will keep you posted once I hear from them early next week.

Sorry to hear and see this, but glad you are OK. As others have said, the truck can be replaced. I'm sure they will total that so get yourself another one and start again. We need to have you remain a part of the Houston crew. If you do get it back and need some help just give me a shout.

When the insurance co cuts you a check, the car is theirs, not yours. you take your personal belongings, if you have any aftermarket equipment you can salvage (cd player, etc) you have to replace it with the OEM parts.

WOW!! Glad to see you were not hurt! :) The pix make me glad I spent the extra money for the side curtain air bags, too! I had to lay down my Harley with my wife on the back about 2 weeks ago, so I know how you feel. :sadcry: They are just metal, but they are OUR metal. We do have a love affair with motor vehicles! I am recovering from surgery to rebuild my right ankle, and my wife still can't bend her right knee, but this, too, shall pass! I am just hoping I will be able to keep my motorcycle. It is a 1974 and you know how insurance companies are about "book" values! :worried: Good luck! Glad you got gap insurance. At the most, you should be like starting over.

:( Man that was a HARD hit. I hate to see a nice SS totaled but at least you are OK. And in my opinon what I can see from the pics it should be totaled. If it is, you are going to get another SS...Right? I noticed the tow truck lifted the rear up on a towdolly and in the pics at the salvage yard the rear lower bumper piece is missing. Thats the piece i've been looking for. I know it was scratched up some but I think it would still work for what I need it for. If they do total your SS I'm interrested in that piece if possible. Thanks PS Look forward to seeing the new and improved Killer SS.:D

thats a sad, sad sight.
Ok, I met the adjuster today and it is "totalled". I should hear back from him tomorrow on a cost to buy it back. He says he is willing to work me a deal. We shall see....
I am curious, what do some of you experts out there think it could be parted out for? Any tips? I dont want to pay $k's expecting to make it up if it is not possible. The body damage is limited to the front, left side and rear bumper. The hood is salvagable and the interior is perfect. Engine and tranny appear to be ok. You can view pics at www.stavrosfamily.com (http://www.stavrosfamily.com)
Your advice is greatly appreciated!
If, I decide to buy it back, I will work with Trailvoy to get permission to post it in the coming days.

09-27-2006, 03:28 AM
Well I know I've seen the seats go for 800 just for the front. Mirrors with the turns and stuff I've seen a couple go for little over a 100 each. Rear bumper still looks decent someone on here would give ya atleast 100. Door handles I know for oem primered ones are like 40 each so maybe 100 for the handles. I think it comes down to if you found someone that wanted the engine and tranny if not then buying it back probably isn't worth it.
