I noticed that there are a lot of OH, and surrounding state owners here on this forum. I would like to guage how interested people would be in scheduling an OH Rt 26 drive with Trailblazer SS's. For those who have never experienced the joy of driving this segment, it can be best described as a 74 mile long roller coaster ride. This is a scenic drive that was rated by Car and Driver several years ago as one of the top ten drives in the USA, and one of the top 100 in the world for the automotive enthusiast. The drive starts in Cambridge OH on Rt 800 and goes south till you get to Woodsfield, which is where Rt 26 sort of starts. From there, it goes south for roughly 60 miles until you reach the end in Marietta, OH. Those of you who have driven it know what i'm talking about, but it's 70+ miles of hills, elevations changes, beautiful scenery from the national forest, and nice curves. A good way to experience this would be to take two days and drive it both ways. There is a Hampton Inn in Marietta, and the Marietta brewery has good beer, and okay food. This would be a good way to experience the handling abilities of the vehicles, and to wind them out. If enough people are interested, maybe we can get a Trailblazer SS and Trailvoy event organized. Depending on when people might have time, this may be the perfect way to start next year's spring. Even if you don't live in OH, this drive could be worth the trip. If owners of other GM SS and non SS vehicles are interested, this could make for an interesting drive with enough people.
I'm hoping that there will be enough interest in this so that we can split into 2 groups of people. One for those who want to drive their wheels off, and one for those who want to cruise along for the ride. The larger the group, the merrier we will be. It would also make our presence more formidable. It looks like this fall is probably out of the picture, so that will mean we should do this during next spring. It's been a long time since i've had a chance to drive Rt 26, so I may go and do a scouting run sometime this winter.
As for other stuff going on, i'm not really sure as this run really goes through a national forest, some one horse towns, and a whole lot of nothing. It's the terrain that really makes this fun. This would probably be best spread over two days, as you'll definately want to drive it back up the next day. If between this site and the TBSS site, we can get a large enough group together, we might be able to get something where some people just do it one day, and others do it a second day. If I go on a scouting drive this winter, i'll mount my camcorder on my windshield and give you guys some videos of the driving route at normal vehicular speeds. Anyone who wants to join me(ride with me, or drive with me) when I make the scouting run this winter is more than welcome. With the exception of the reduced speed limits when passing through the one horse towns, the speed limits are 55 throughout most of the route, so we can definately get some good speed working. A good portion of this route is in a forest following the Muskingum river. I just want to guage interest at this time. While it's very early, what dates would work well for you guys? This would almost definately have to happen on a weekend.
Another thing I was thinking, is whether it's possible to make this part of either a larger meeting, or even a regional or national trailvoy and TBSS convention lasting more than just a weekend. This drive would be perfect combined with an afternoon and evening at the 1/4 mile drag strip, along with some other possible activities. I'm a newcomer to both this and the TBSS site, but I would be more than willing to work with a few people to organize something bigger if people would like that. Let's also discuss what other activities everyone might be interested in.
