I saw this...

http://forums.trailvoy.com/showthread.php?t=13357&highlight=headers

But has anybody else got any actual gains from only installing headers and maybe tweaking the tune(not going from no tune to tune though).

I got really excited when tbyrne said they are having a sale on the headers, but then I looked at the gains and they aren't appearing to be that good, especially for the price.

Skinnies, I had SW catted LT'S (with coating) and LMF muffler installed a week ago.Prior to this, I had the Vector CAI and tune. Had Vector re-tune for the headers.

Had the tune done first-- this made a big, noticable improvement in acceleration with firmer shifts.

Had the CAI installed second-- louder intake sound, marginal improvement in performance, no change in shifts.

Header and muffler-- awesome, awesome sound, shifts appear less abrupt (I assume Vector dialed in a little more torque management), but most importantly, another very noticable improvement in acceleration!

This is my wife's daily driver (about 70 miles/day to and from work on a 2 lane highway--lots of passing). My wife is a real motorhead-- extensive track experience on sport bikes and in cars. She's really good with suspension setup, so she notices small changes in handling and performance. She describes it as a similar improvement in performance as with the original tune.

I realize that some published data seems to indicate only a small increase in peak horsepower, but you also have to look at the midrange improvements and overall driveability.

Overall, I spent 3K(Canadian) for purchase and install. Was it worth it considering the sound and performance. ABSOLUTELY!!! No regrets whatsoever.

I picked up 25/28 on an already tuned car. I would be that from stock with headers and a tune you could easily pickup 40+

I believe it was... at least from what his website archives show... And I think I remember it being that way too.

You should get 20-25hp and about 30tq from longtubes without tuning. If the 5.3L's are getting that--I know, I put LT's on 2, after all other bolt-ons--then you shouldn't get any less from the 6.0Ls, or not much...I know the cams and heads are different. But, these ls1-ls2 motors love LT's.

Those gains were pre-turbo with tuning. I picked up 15 by just bolting them on BEFORE tuning. Also, I picked up another 10 with more tuning and more timing for a total of 35 hp gain.

Do you still have those headers layin' around that garage of yours or did you put them into the Red beast?
