I love the sound V8 engines give, is it possible to get the same sound by installing a performance muffler and a cool air intake?

Preface: I have not heard a TB I6 with a tuned exhaust.

In general: You can't get the same sound out of a 6.
Some different muffler & intake combinations will give you a throatier and louder sound. Especially when the baffles are new... when they start to break down though... wow! they end up sounding more like a ricer than a 8.

Well, you're not going to get a V8 rumble out of the L6 engine. If you could get a header that split the output into two separately outlets, with 3 cylinders per outlet, it might come close....but not with a single 3" outlet.

With the SWB trucks, the Bassani is supposed to sound kind of like a mid-90s 5.0L Mustang.....haven't heard the Bassani personally, but that's what one member on another board posted.

The Borla has a nice low mellow tone to it like a BMW 3.0....which makes sense, since the L6 is VERY similar to the BMW engine. - Sounds great accelerating, but not quite a V8 sound. (I'll warn you, there is some drone between 1500-2000 rpm under load in high gear, like when going up a hill).

Problem is I don't believe either has a system available for the longer XL/EXT at this time. Borla does have a universal split exhaust kit, that with some work could probably be made to fit....I would think a good muffler shop could handle it. (You get the split front muffler, two resonators with polished tips and an assortment of tubing). - Just a thought. :m2:

Sorry to break the bad news to ya, but I have not heard any 4.2 with any exhaust so far sound ever close to a small block V8
