Originally I was looking at 20's but didn't want all that room between the tire and fender so now I am thinking 22's. Can I fit a 22 under a stock suspension and not get any rub. I think the way to go would be 265/40, instead of a 35, just for a little more protection. Will this set-up work? What about a 305/40? That is the tire that is included in the package I was eyeing. I think the 305/40 is going to be just a little big. Any direction I can get would be a huge help. Thanks,

James

I don't think the 22 is going to fill the gap between the wheel and the body much differently than the 20 - the outside diameter of the wheel and tire combo is going to be similar - if it wasn't your speedometer would be way off.

A suspension drop is what is going to close that gap....

   Suspension drop will fill the gap. Larger diameter tires are not the answer, as jbachert is correct, the speedo will be off, and will also change your rear axle ratio (larger tire will slow your takeoff down).

I am just counting down the days until my 20" rims arrive - they are on their way. I have the new tires in the garage - rims should arrive friday - getting them mounted saturday. :)

Thanks for the info, but will a 22 on a 265/40 have any clearance issues? Also, what kind of drop can you do with the 22's?

Just to be safe I just ended up going with 275/45's on 20's. I grabbed the gf lowering springs too. I kinda wanted 22's but I don't want any issues, even if they are slight. Thanks for the replies!!

Ended up with NS Racing "signs" wrapped in Yokohama Geo's. Something modest. I will take some pics soon.

I like the 20's better. Good choice. Not enough tire on the 22's IMO. Let's see some pics. :)

Do you know if they can paint over the grill.(chrome)? I'd like to get mine painted also.

I am just going to throw the stock grille in the garage. What I mean by "chrome strip," is the long, thin chrome piece on the front of the TB that encompasses the bowtie. And yes, if you want you could sand off the chrome finish and then paint it but you take a chance of having the paint not adhere that great. It might work out, I just want to do it right the first time. You could probably paint right over the chrome, but again, who knows how long it will last.

Earl Sheib has been painting over chrome for years. If you don't tape it off before it gets there, it gets painted. At least with Maaco they try to tape it off.

:D :D :D Anyone can paint over chrome, getting it to adhere for the long term is the trick.
