I was searching a little and saw this I am not sure that it will work for us now i know its is for the 4L60 but our tranny is basically the same with some hardened parts. I am not a tranny specialist or anything but i know our tranny is the weak link in our trucks. What do you guys think??http://www.4l60-e.com/#4l60E to 4l80e (http://www.4l60-e.com/#4l60E to 4l80e)

Why do you say the tranny is the weak link, have any gone out due to too much hp/tq? I know many rear ends have failed.

thats true, i am always worried about my trans, but i have yet to read a post concerning a trans failure on a modded SS...

transmission is my first concern. i don't think you've read about one failing yet for quite a few reason. first and foremost...there's only a handful of people that have really laid into the motor with serious mods (i.e. heads/cam/forced induction). i will say im surprised that with the amount of people running a stall and/or nitrous im surprised there haven't been a few fail. but in that sense, what's the highest mileage SS around? 15,000 miles or so? mine's getting close to 9,000 i know. so while they might be pushing them hard i dont think any of the mods have really had time to take their toll yet. :)

i mean you can buy a super beefed up 4l60/70 from any where from 2g's to up to 5-6g's or have the stock one worked on with some hardended parts. now i am sure most of us if we were to change the tranny would like the 6l80 but how much can that take. I know alot of guys drive their SS' hard but like you said they don't many miles on them yet. once more guys have the serious mods and are pushing the tranny we will see how it holds up

I've heard of people shredding beefed-up 4L60Es (not necessarily in TBSSs), but 4L80Es are supposedly good for ungodly amounts of power. I haven't heard if there are any fit problems--I don't even know if that thing is bigger or not.
If I were going to bother doing a tranny swap, I'd figure out if the 6L60 or 6L80 six-speed autos would fit. I figure in a couple of years there will be plenty of them around.
