Guys, I love my TBSS. But my first love is a 1980 Monte Carlo, my first car. I bought it when I was 16...drove it many years. Crashed it once. Rebuilt it, repainted it with my dad who has leukemia now. For the last 8 or 9 years it has been in storage at my parents house. It's in great shape. It was only driven for about a year after it was repainted. Rebuilt custom 305, new 350 turbo tranny, custom dual exhaust. Burgandy color with same interior. Not the fastest car, but hell it was my first! Let's face it, for those of you who know, it's a hell of a sexy car.
One of my best friends calls me today and his sister wants to buy it for three grand cash. His sister loves those cars...Regals and so on.
My Wife doesn't care what I do...but said, "that's three grand you can spend on the TBSS." My eyes got real big at this point....what to do what to do? Sell it and use the money for the SS? Or keep it and be happy with the SS the way it is?

If theres any sort of sentimental feelings with it, keep it, trust me youll regrret it....Or, if you trust that this girl will do the right thing, sell it to her....If i were you, I'd hang onto it:yes:

man that is a tough one. First thing that comes to mind is, how come it has been sitting and not being driven? Depending on the answer to that questions would have to be a deciding factor. If it has been sitting, because you wants to keep it nice and clean with low mileage, hold on to it. If has been in storage because you don;t have time to drive it or no interest to drive it, might be time to let it go. Like I said, its a tough call. :undecided

Since your dad was involved in the rebuild, I'd ask his advice.
And if you decide to sell it, up the price just a little. $3500 or so will get you that much closer to a Maggie for the SS.

If you have a lot of sweat, blood and family value in it, keep it. $3000.00 is not that much money and can be saved easily. Money comes and goes but memories last forever.

It's was in storage at first cause I just drove my other car/truck. Now it is in storage cause I live in AZ and the car is in MN. I've been in AZ for 5 years now and just don't have an extra stall in the garage for the Monte. Besides that, do you know how fast a car like that would get stolen in AZ? LOL

Something I've learned in life is: When in doubt go without. It doesn't seem like there is a lot of conviction to sell the car so keep it.
It's kinda like when I flipped out when I learned my parents traded my first car for my dad's '03 Mach 1 Mustang, and the dealership only gave them $500 for my first ride. That car meant a lot to me and now it's gone, never to be seen again. And that taught me a good lesson as so many people have tried to talk me into selling my Impala but a team of horses couldn't seperate me from that car. Yeah, so it's plastic and steel but it embodies a lot of emotions for me.

I would keep it! It brings back memmories, it's not worth losing that for $3K IMO

Sounds like too many memories to give up for 3K cash.

Like someone else mentioned, I think you should find out what that girls intentions for it are. If she is going to keep it in really good shape, then maybe it wouldn't be such a bad idea. If you think she'll trash it, then heck no don't sell it. Maybe she will keep it in great shape and give it the attention it deserves? ha

Just went through this with my Jeep. Drove it 2 times in 6 months and then decided I needed to let someone else enjoy it. Do I miss it? Yeah, but having the extra dough to spend on my SS is making that pain fade quickly, plus having the extra garage space doesn't suck either. If you don't have time for it, then trust me, there isn't any reason to hang onto it since you'll have the memories forever anyway.

sometimes its tough to let go of the past i still see myfirst car driving around which i had a lot of GOOD times in, and yes i miss it but i let it go and from time to time you will miss it and wish you still had it but if you dont drive it and have not used it in 5 yrs mabye its time to say goodbye and sell it and get some parts for the SS which will make you happy, but if you feel that sentimental value is more than they money then do not sell it

and hes right. 3K is a fair amount of money, but it can be saved pretty quickly, especially if that car has all those memories in it. I would probably not sell it just because (personally if) my dad had helped me with it, it would be a great memory for us forever.

One thing from selling my 85' cutlass supreme is that you always regret it. Sometimes the best desicions are the ones you dont make. Money is replaceable. Unless you really need the money, I would take a pass on selling it. From what I see, you dont really need the cash. Its going to be invested to your Trailvoy anyway, from which it will depriciate too, and if you were ever to sell it, you would lose money.
