View Full Version : Insurance went up
T-Blaze SS

Just got off the phone with my insurance company, my premium went up $40 per 6 months (to $970) because a new code attached to our VINs was recognized by the insurance company. Im pretty sure that my previous rates were based on a standard Trailblazer designation and now they are charging a premium for the "SS". Curious if anyone else has noticed this recently.

hmmm... for 06 i thought the SS was considered "an option" whereas the 07 was considered a true SS...meaning that 06 insurance should be cheaper than 07:undecided

Whom is your insurance company? I see from your photos that you have an '06.

I figured the reason they buried the SS option under the LS or LT trim level in '06 was for insurance reasons. I think GM realized if they want to sell more, it better be easier to 'Build and Price' one on their website (2007 model). I was shocked at how cheap my insurance rate was for my '06. Anyway, now that one company has figured it out, it's probably just a matter of time before they all raise the rates.

Umm...The insurance companies, if they're worth anything, know it has a 6.0ltr by the VIN. Maybe you could fool one of those internet companies, but the big ones know exactly what you have from day one.

I guess I'm saying they may have figured out the TBSS is a wolf in sheeps clothing and therefore, it must carry higher insurance rates. Maybe the insurance bean counters and analysts found this website and realized we're freakin' nuts. We've done it to ourselves!
Maybe if we all put ours back to stock and started threads touting the virtues of driving the speed limit and shunning racing, our rates would go down. Anyone with me on this?

Insurance is generally based on how much it would be to replace your vehicle, whether or not is is turbo, the engine displacement, the area u live in, driving history and credit history. In your case, the vin drives the engine specifics for your vehicle which idenitifies the engine size and cubic inches. I'm willing to bet it is costing you more becuz you are adding a vehicle that has 8 cylinders instead of 6 and is therefore considered a 'performance vehicle'........I work for a large insurance company but don't know who you're insurance is through so I couldn't say for absolute sure. Just my :m2:
For instance: I replaced a 2001 GMC Jimmy LT with a 2005 Trailblazer LS and my insurance went up $9 a month since it would cost the ins co more to repair or replace a 2005 rather than a 2001.

I traded my 2001 Ford Ranger XLT 4x4 Off Road (4.0 liter) for my 2006 TBSS.
Exact same coverage... everything the same except the vehicle.
My rate went up $40 every 6 months.
This makes it cheaper when you compare "new" to "new" because with State Farm your insurance will go down as the vehicle ages.
I love my STATE FARM :D

Mine dropped about $120/yr from my Grand Prix GXP (5.3L LS4 V8), before that I can't compare, because it replaced a 96' Regal, my 2nd car, that carried liability only... I have 2 fully Covered SUV's (04' & 06') and it costs me about $1100/yr, in NJ the "High Insurance" rate state:rolleyes: ....

I agree!!! Mine only went up from a 02 LT TB to an 06 TBSS, $6 and change a month. Not bad if you ask me
It doesn't surprise me since the SS is tailored towards performance. They also factor in accident rates (there has been a few on this site) and tickets (probably a few more).
They could have used the VIN but the 6.0 liter is available in just about everything that it will fit in to. My guess is that they found the SS option once they punch up the VIN. Also the insurance company is probably figuring out that SS means performance in most cases at least.
