Hi everyone,
I have SLT Envoy 2002 and my resonator is out of order. I did contact dealer and he gave me price for 719$. It is crasy price for such item.
This part of the exhaust system is the most ugly one for the look of the car in the rear. I have seen many threads on mufflers etc but I havent found any yet about universial resonator in the rear that can replace the orginal one with same sound. What solution is suetable for such replacement. ? I would appriciate assistance and pointers on this.
If you can point out websites it would be great.

For about $300 you can take off ALL the exhaust system and get the muffler shop to install a Flowmaster 50 series, It sounds a lot better and it's a lot cheaper

You could do that, but it would be LOUD.

I would get a large FlowMaster or Magnaflow muffler (like a FM 70 series or a Magnaflow 12589). That way you wont have to run a resonator and it will sound better but not be crazy loud.

Or, you could buy a catback kit from Magnaflow for about the same price as your dealer quoted.

I think the borla dual exhaust catback was for $800 too, bu i'm not 100% sure

If you don't want to put an aftermarket exhaust on, just have your local muffler shop install a piece of muffler pipe and a tip, it doesn't sound that much different unless you're hearing is super sensitive. I couldn't tell the difference.

What size muffler pipe was used. I want to do it, I have buddies that can weld I just dont' know what size pipe?

Some people have used 3" piping, I believe the ideal size is 2 3/4" piping.

Get a muffler and glasspack. I paid around 150 for everything including labor. Look at my gallery i have pics of my exhaust setup.

just delete the resonator.....and put a tip on for like $100 or you can put a full magnaflow catback for $350...do not get the magnaflow off the magnaflow site get a custom exhaust it is soo much cheaper and better

I'm just going to do the delete add the 25inches of straight pipe and add a tip for now until I save up the money for a dual catback.

You will like it, sounds fine. no real resonance. For most of us, hotrodder types, it is still to quite. I think the "look" is better without the big can hanging under the bumper. I like the driving experience... hearing and feeling the engine is part of it....

Hey i know i'm late reading this thread. But i removed my resonator yesterday. It looks alot better and its not much louder at all. Best of all it only cost me about $12.00 and 20 min of work. The tip was twice as much as the piping but well worth it. Later. Mark.

Hey. I don't have a clue how to post a picture. I'll try and get some help on that. But i will let you know in a week how i like it without the resonator but i drove about 200 miles today and i don't notice any resonance at all. Some ears may be more sensitive then others. My brother was with me about 75 of those miles and he didn't notice much difference either. But i'll let you know in a week. But one of my other cars is a 78 Pontiac Trans Am with a healthy small block chevy in it. it has headers and 3 inch pipes with flowmasters With no tail pipes. So i know resonance. I'll try to get a picture of that to. Later. Mark.

how hard and or how much work was it to remove the side moldings from the door panels i LOVE the clean look of this and want to do mine, was the glue behind the things really hard to remove ? was it tape or a glue type stuff and what did you use to remove the adhesive if it was?

did you have to polish the paint after removal to make it all blend together?

Hey Josh. It's double sided tape. I used a plastic putty knife to get it started then pealed it off then rolled the remaining tape off with my fingers then buffed it out. It took less then 15 min. I used a 2 1/2 in pipe and a 3 in clamp then snugged it down. I cut the old pipe off right after the hanger it's tight but it works. Later. Mark.
