Anyone strip their engine cover screw and/or the threaded insert in the engine yet? If so, how did you/the dealer repair it?
Thanks.

Warren Oates ltz03 11-05-2006, 10:24 AM yes i did, i stripped the screw. all i did was use a tap and die and fixed both the bolt and insert. if you have these tools or know someone who has just do it yourself. if not the dealer will prolly do the same thing tahoe555 11-05-2006, 11:18 AM does any1 know where to find the screw mine mysteriously dissapperared when it got back from the dealer. warren oates 11-05-2006, 12:11 PM yes i did, i stripped the screw. all i did was use a tap and die and fixed both the bolt and insert. if you have these tools or know someone who has just do it yourself. if not the dealer will prolly do the same thing I didn't strip either - yet. I looked under my engine cover for the first time yesterday and I couldn't believe what a POS set-up that screw is. Just begging to be stripped, huh? Thanks. Warren Oates does any1 know where to find the screw mine mysteriously dissapperared when it got back from the dealer. Tell the dealer and have him order you one in. I'm sure it's in his parts info. I did yesterday and when I lifted our nifty little plastic engine cover I got a BLAST of pretty hot air out from underneath. Not sure, but I can't see how it can "hep" any to have a huge heat absorber right on top the engine. :undecided cgseanp 11-07-2006, 10:59 AM It is there to hold in heat.... right ? Anyone ever pop the hood and lift up the cover after running the engine for awhile ? I haven't put it back on yet.. my last car was an RX8, and it had the engine cover.. I heard a rumour that it was there to keep the heat from damaging the hood because it got really hot.. I was just making sure this isnt the case with the TBSS. That could all be BS tho, I dont know. robm 11-07-2006, 12:26 PM Think it's more of a NVH(noise) thing. vetruck 11-08-2006, 05:10 AM It does three things, cleans up the engine bay, reduces the noise from the injectors etc., and most importantly keeps the heat in and away from the MAF (read IAT sensor). A member did some tests with his on and off and his IAT's skyrocketed with it off causing the ECM to pull gobs of timing. Leave it on, especially at the track  :m2: | |
