i do not as of present own a tbss. i have a HEAVILY modded subaru wrx. my delima is i have two kids. a 2 yr girl and 6 yr old boy. and when two people are in the front the kids. so i test drove a tbss yesterday it was pretty quick for a suv. i would have to add a supercharger to get the same thrill i get out of the subie. i was just wondering the pros and cons on the vehicle. i know you guys might be a little biased but i figured if there were any quirks you guys would know. also is there any performance advantage of awd over 2wd?
thanks in advance for any help.

just a tune and a CAI and it is faster than your WRX. Go for it. I just sold my C5 and don't care. The TBSS is awesome. It does everything. I got the AWD because of the rain and snow. It's and all weather interceptor. Best truck I have ever owned.

I meant a stock WRX. Heavily mod your TBSS and it will be faster than most anything.

Last time I checked.... My WRX ran about 14.1 stock and my 2wd TBSS runs 13.9-14.0 stock depending on weather.... im about to add a CAI, HSRK, and Custom Dyno tune and it should be more around 13.2/13.3.

Regardless, you wont be able to throw it around like the WRX, but you will have a lot more room and a SUV which I'll be honest, is more kid friendly.

Also, especially if you get the LT, it will be far more luxury than the WRX (remember I had one).... the LT (or 3SS? on 07 models) will have nice leather seats and nice options like nav (i have) sunroof (i have) and fit and finish far superior to the subaru.

In addition I had a C5 vette before my TBSS and sold it because (like you) i needed more room and although at times i miss the sheer performance of the vette, i absolutly love the versitility, attract less police looks, and still love blowing the doors off of ricers (no offence remeber i had a WRX) with an SUV none the less.......

Hope that helps

it gave me a heavy but the rex will give you a boner! i have roughly $9500 in mods on the car. 0-60 in under 4.5. but as i said i need something to haul kids, groceries and ass!lol. and i think with a little lovin. and by lovin i mean a supercharger and all the mods that need to come with it i am sure i will achieve bonabilty once again. once i sell the rex i will probably get the blue tbss. just because the kids love riding in the "blue car"http://i101.photobucket.com/albums/m56/cyacop/100_0459_0030Large.jpg

Nice WRX. The one big bonus the TBSS has over cars is it's safety. It's big and will protect you and your kids. One of the reasons I got rid of my vette was for this reason. After getting in a head on car crash with a drunk 2 years ago in an Envoy of mine I will never drive anything smaller again. That Envoy simply saved my life.

i would say go for it, where you live do you get snow if not i would get the 2wd , i have the awd and love it. there are plenty of mods you can do to go fast turbo's, superchargers, heads, cams, etc,etc.... and i will guarantee the motor is much easier to work on than the wrx. they are safe to be in. and for an suv they are hard to roll. there was an article where the editor blew it sideways at like 90 on the highway and he said it felt nice.

I have had my ss for about 6 months and with only a tune the thing will get up and go. It hauls 4 people plus all the crap for trips.I am 6' 6" so when I went from a sedan to a midsize suv i couldn't fit in many out there. The nice thing about the ss is that very few people realize how fast they are. I have been about 125 on a deserted interstate and I was supprized how very stable it was.The only bad thing is my wife always wants to drive it.

Very reasonable, especially at your age being married.

The TBSS is a nice fit for a family with young kids. The rear seats fold down (if need be) and the rear cargo area is a nice size that will easily hold a bunch of groceries or luggage for long trips. I would recommend AWD for snowy climates, the leather seating, and rear DVD player for your kids. Trust me, it will preserve your sanity on long trips. It has a good towing capacity as well.
Overall it will keep you and the Mrs happy with it's versatility and combination of good overall performance and practicality. The only true downside is the 4-speed auto when combined with AWD averages in the 14 mpg range. I recommend you AND the wife test drive one.

I will lay the outline down for what you need to do....
A) Buy the TBSS, AWD
B) get a Tune, UD Pulley, E-Fans & Converter
C) go to the track and run it...

you want to see what 0-60 in 4 Seconds feels like?? In a 5k lbs Truck??

there you have it, let's review...
xxxxx$ for the Truck... $325 tune... $240 Ud Pulley & belt... $320 for the Fans... $900 for the converter (another $400 or so for an install if you can't do it), add a cooler and servos another $350 at the most..

So for $2500 ( only $2000 if you're capable) over the cost of your new SS it will be a solid 12.5 truck at probably close to 106mph or more.... That's not bad....not bad at all, and it will be upgraded (Trans/Cooling) so you won't have to replace anything for some time...

if you do buy one, I strongly advise you to upgrade the trans, do the Tune & Converter ASAP, you'll never miss a beat from the Subie... Good Luck...

PS. with my last track outing I was hitting 60 in around 4.17 seconds going by the 2 calculators I used online:D .... (using the 8.352 sec it took me to get to 84.92mph in the 1/8th mile from my 13.02 run:woot: )

that is respectable! i dont give a damn what you are driving. you need a sticker on the back that reads"you just got beat by an suv" we are all speed freaks here. i dont have a tbss yet but i thought you guys would like to see some picks of my cars and the tag i will be transfering on to my tbss when i get it.http://i101.photobucket.com/albums/m56/cyacop/whiplash.gif

Well, this TB lady was unaware of the SS model until about a year ago......
I'm trying to convince http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l288/merenjay/talking.gif my hubby that he wants my LS so I can then upgrade to an SS and stop drooling over everyone I see.
So far, he's not taking the bait http://i99.photobucket.com/albums/l288/merenjay/depressed.gif.

I've been a Subie fan and driver for years (two turbo Legacys, an SVX, an Outback, and almost a WRX) and I think other than the TBSS there is not a better car on the road (IMHO). I will say since getting the SS I really have had no second thoughts, and would buy another SS in a heartbeat! My wife (the regular driver) absolutely loves it as well, other than the gas mileage (and we all know we ain’t in it for the mileage :dielaugh:) I can’t find any faults! In other words BUY IT! BTW, wicked WRX!

where at in AR do you live?

i dont really have anything to add. it's quick for an SUV, there's only a few trucks/suv's i'll back down from at a stop light, and not a whole lot of cars in my area. the shock factor i get from everyone around here in quick cars is worth it too. i've got a tuned AWD, so i usually get them off the line.

Diggin' that blue WRX man, that thing has got to be crazy fast!!! 0-60 in 4.5s, thats like Corvette territory easily and AWD really helps with launches!

I hate to admit it but Ive never ridden in a WRX even though I hear they are amazingly fast.:(

i cant believe no one has said anything about the miata sitting next to it with a 400 hp small block v-8 in it. can u say drift! i did that swap myself. no kit.

The Miata is cool, and a real nice job on the engine, but I can't relate to a car I can't drive (at 6'5" and 290lbs it's just too small for me). However I can relate to the Subie :drool  .

i got a buddy about your size. he can shoe horn into the pass. side. they are small cars. thats why i am thinking about getting rid of the subie.just dreading the bigger note and i guess they run on premium gas. subie does but only a 13 gal tank
