hey, i have the ground force lowering kit and was wondering what would happen if i trimmed the coils. Would the ride be different? how would i go about getting them cut also. also has anyone ever done this?

why would you want to go lower? I am sure there has to be something special about cutting springs.

sonic has a 5", 5" drop and it looks amazing. i dont want any space in my wheel wells. if he can do it then so can the rest of us. take a look his ride and tell it doesn look that low.

do you plan on driving your car? project sonic is not a daily driver, its a show car.

I wouldnt cut them if i were you! Coils are made specific for the ride height and load handling of each vehicle. Coils are made as a progressive rate (differant diameters thru the wrap) to accomidate both load and height. by "cutting" them you could throw everything off. I would also think that if you went down too far you would have a heck of a time getting the alignment right for everyday driving (just a guess). I would only go that low with a custom set of coils that are made for your application which is possible but very expensive. The only other problem i can think of to help you save your money is that Iam not sure how you would know where to cut the spring when it is is its "free form" to get the correct effect, just by cutting 4 or 5 inches off dosent actuailly mean that your are lowering the ride height exactily that much when they are installed and the weight is on the coils.

My issue is that you are negatively impacting the handling of the vehicle by doing this. All I can think of is hitting a bump on the highway, losing control, hopping the median and plowing into a minivan full of kids. Its one thing to chop springs in a civic but the TB is a heavier vehicle and it just aint safe. I don't have any problem with you wanting to alter the appearance of your car but you're endangering peoples lives by crippling your suspension, all for the sake of looks. Its a bad idea.

ok then what about keeping the gf coils but adding the djm control arms as well? combining both kits? so the it would be something like a 3.3, 4 drop :undecided ???

That is definately a more acceptable way of doing it. I'd contact DJM and bouce that idea off of them.
