Will the V8 engine fit in the V6 engine cavity of a 04 TB Ext? For that matter will the engine in the new SS fit in the V6?

I think the space that you're talking about is all the same on all the models, but then again, i could be wrong.

but that would be one heck of an expense to swap out motors... Though it's only a $1000 upgrade on the 06's to get the V8 in the SWB, non SS that is

Theres no V6 offered on our trucks...its an I6 4.2L.

But, it is probably not cost effective to try and swap. Yes, all of the engines should all be able to go in the SWB and EXT.

On a serious note, I don't think it will be cost effective to swap out the motor. You will probalby spend more in labor and grief than it maybe worth to sell and get one with a V8 that comes as an option for the 04 TB EXT.

However, if you do decide to swap out the motor, maybe you could look into putting the 6.0 in there? Or maybe an LS1 from a C5 Corvette. It can fit, but depending on your skills, troubleshooting, time, and definately a deep pocket, your better off trading/buying what you want.

and then a transmission to handle the bigger engine, i'm sure that's an issue too

hmmm.. didn't think about the transmission. If thats the case, may need to change out the drive shaft and depending on your axle ratio, may need to change it out, possibly to the 3.73. And if all is said and done, hopefully you won't have any clunks and weird noises.

If it was me... and I wanted the larger engine... I'd trade mine in, especially now since you can get a TB SWB with the 5.3 V8  .

I'm not sure GM used a different tranny between the two although they're using a beefier tranny with the SS.

I would be most concerned with the wiring harness. Physically swapping the motor shouldn't be too hard but having to rewire the harness would be a huge PITA.

The 5.3 is a big reason I bought a SWB Denali.
