Ok, my car is permanently stuck in 2wd. None of the lights on the 4wd switch work, and I have no way to switch into 4wd.
This is a problem. Considering we just got a foot of snow on Friday, my 4wd is almost a necessity. Especially since this truck drifts nasty with rwd on.
The likely problem is the switch. However, I would like some input in case I am wrong.
Thanks in advance.

i had the same symptoms last week....turns out it was the TCCM (transfer case controle module)...it was replaced, and now all is well...

i also had this problem. Also was the transfer case module and the dealer told me they had to program it.
I do have a new problem though: intermintently the 2wd light flashes then goes out but all the light on the switch are on including the red N. I have not noticed what types of conditions it happens. When u move the switch the position flashes then goes out too, and no shift happens.

if you guys are in dire need of 4X4, then do what i do when I'm in need of it (which is near enough every weekend so far). Switch the car off, stick the 4X4 switch onto A4wd, 4hi, 4lo then switch the car on.. you'll hear the 4X4 engage.. voila your 4X4 is working again.. to get it back into 2wd, just repeat the process again.. switch the ignition off again, switch the 4x4 into 2wd, then switch the car on..
Blueavalanche please let me know how the reprogramming goes, I'm supposed to go in sometime and get my reprogrammed, but thinking it might be a waste of time and actually get the TCCM replaced instead..

Same problem here. No light on the switch. I'm going to go try the turn off, 4wd, turn on method as stated above.;) I'm going to get it fixed this week though.

BluavalancheZ71, I've had the same problem with all of the lights (2hi, a4wd, 4hi, 4lo, N) staying on and the indicator light flashing for awhile and then going out. First happened a few weeks ago then yesterday looked like it was going to do it again until i finished backing up and put it in drive then the indicator light came on and the other lights went to normal. I'm really hoping that its not the TCCM. I suppose if it starts to happen more regularly i'll have to bring it in because all i have is 2hi when it does that.

How did it go? Because I've gotta try it, eating some Chinese food right now, gonna try it the next time I take a drive somewhere.

Happened last fall and again this fall
Remove the 4wd fuse in the under hood fuse box (number 8 i think) and put it back in.
You have to do this when it is running or it doesn't work.
It seems to reboot it or something but I have lost all the 4wd lites on the switch the last 2 yrs in the fall and got it working again this way.
BTW it HAS to be running

Same thing happened on my 02 and 04. Dealer fixed under warranty--re-programmed module.

When the dealer replaced the 4wd module they had to program it for it to work(or so they claimed), what was even worse I was only 1000 miles out of warranty and would not help me. Darn thieves a quick to GM and they refunded my $$. I have a lot of 4x4 issues with the trailblazer. I hope that I can find my next truck that has a lever for the 4x4.

I have had the lights go out on the switch and "Service 4WD" light go on 3 times in the past 18 months. After turning the TB off for an hour then back on one or two times, it works fine again. Therefore, the dealer can't diagnose a problem. Seems to need to reboot, or a sensor is fogged up or wet or something. It always happens on a dry cold day after it has been raining or snowing for more than a day.
Thanks for the other recommendations, I will try the fuse next time, and if all else fails, switch it to 2wd or A4WD before I start it.

K, I HAD OIL CHANGED AND FLUIDS FILLED AND CK'D. AFTERWARDS DRIVING HOME AND 4WD SERVICE LIGHT CAME ON. GOT HOME, TRIED TO USE 4WD HI AND LO AND ALSO AWD AND NOTHING. WONT ENGAGE. LOOKED AT RECEIPT AND THERE IS A NOTE THAT THEY SPRAYED TOP OF ENGINE W/ WATER TO RINSE OFF SPILLED OIL. COULD THIS HAVE CAUSED ANY DAMAGED TO THE FUSES OR MODULE? I HAVE APPOINTMENT TO BRING BACK TO WALMART WHERE OIL CHANGE WAS DONE BUT WE ALL KNOW THEY ARE GONNA CRY THAT THEY DIDNT DO WRONG. I HAVE TOWED A VERY SMALL TRAILER W/ IT IN AWD FOR THE PAST 2 WEEKS AND TEST THE 4WD ONCE A WEEK TO KEEP GEARS IN WRKING ORDER. NEVER HAD PROBLEM. OH LITES ON SWITCH ARE ALL OFF TOO. PLEASE HELP ANYONE, DONT HAVE EXTRA MONEY TO BRING IT TO GET DIAGNOSED. :sadcry:
