Greetings,

I have been in the market for a new LARGER vehicle than our current 2004 AWD Saturn Vue. The Vue has served us very well - especially the Honda V6 (250 hp) and the 5 speed Honda Automatic Transmission. We have been averaging over 25 MPG on the hwy... Problem is we are now renovationg a 2 nd home and need something for those "dirty" qick trips to Home Depot or the dump. I have narrowed it down to the Avalanche or an XUV. I have driven them both and of course the Avalanche is much more discounted (usually 9 to 11K off of sticker). While the XUV is only about 5 or 6K off. I think the higher interior "enclosed" area will be more useful than the torneau cover of the AVy. I am assuming that since the XUV has been discontinued that larger discounts are not far away (I know what happens when "assume"). From what I have read (my local dealer has only V6's left)I think that I would want the V8 and was wondering what sort of experience any owners have had. It appears that the V8 and V6 do the same as far as MPG. What about D.O.D. V8's??? I assume that ALL of the 05's XUV V8's have DOD? What do people think about the XUV in general.
Thanks, Joe

Welcome VideoJoe,

Yes I would highly recommend the XUV. I have a V6 but its still hauls a ton! With the retractable roof you can even carry the tall things without tipping them on its side.

If you want a V8, you should just be able to go to your dealer and they will do a search of the area of whats available. I recommend you do it fast though because like you said they are discontinued, and with the great deals, I don't believe they will last long. I don't think my local dealer has any more. Sorry, I don't know much about DOD since I have the V6 but I know plenty others here can help you out.

GET THE XUV!!! :D

I absolutely love my XUV. I mostly use it for hauling my Labs to the park, the weekly visit to Home Depot, and the usual. There is nothing else like it on the road. I absolutely love the look of the truck and of course what you can turn it into. Your definitely not going to get the gas mileage you got in the VUE! Personally, I wanted the 5.3 as well as some other features I couldn't find at a local dealer so I ended up ordering it.

And for the record, it's an I6, not V6 :)

Both are great trucks man. I would go with the Avalanche, but that's just my personal opinion. Good luck!

For those with the V6 (I mean I6) and the V8, what sort of gas mileage are you all experiencing?? Some Avalanche owners swear their 5.3 V8 (4wd) with the 3.41 rear diff routinely get 20+ MPG on the HWY...

I believe its 3.42 gear ratio...I'd say on the freeway I get that. The windows, moonroof, and roof gotta be closed, but yeah. When the weather is nice, I drive around with everything open. However my DIC tells me my avg fuel econ thus far is 13.1  I think the Avalanche is also a nice lookin rig as well. I don't think you can go wrong with either. For now, expect at least a $60/65 fill up and up. I have to put in 91 b/c of my Westers tune so I have been putting in like  $70 Keep us posted with what you decide.
