can anyone tell me how many foot pounds of torque is 89 inch pounds. i am taking off my entire intake system and my haynes manual tells me to tighten the intake manifold bolts 89 inch pounds and my torque wrench only has foot pounds on it. and also are there any main hazards that i should know about when taking of my intake manifold like things being put back into the right place the right way. im taking it all off strickly for learning purposes b/c i want to get to know more about the main locations of parts in a generic engine and how they come off and the proper way for them to be put back on. thank you guys a lot.

While conversion of in. lbs. to ft. lbs. is a matter of using the factor of 12 in. lbs. per foot pound, the use of a torque wrench calibrated for ft. lbs. is not recommended. Clamping in inch pounds is best done with a torque wrench sensitive to the more delicate force. This is all the more important with an intake manifold made from composite plastic. Since your intake removal and reinstallation is for educational purposes, you may be better advised to purchase the GM Service Manual for the TrailBlazer. It is far more comprehensive than the Haynes book and will provide you virtually all the data you seem to be seeking in your project.

mechanical endine repair for gasoline engines is prety straight forward to be honest. there are "tricks to the trade" but truly every repair is a nut and a bolt. I did this for my oldest boy (hes six). i went to a junk yard called "U-pullit and removed a small block 350 chevy engine. we tore it down and rebuilt it using strictly a hanes manual following every step exactly as it was stated, right down to checking clearances with plasi-gauge. we ordered the rebuild kit and installed all the parts in the reverse order we took them out (this was the hard part because the sheet we had the parts laid out on and numbered in removal order was kicked around in the garage thankfully we had a picture of the teardown) we sent in the heads for machine work and had the block dipped and planed. after we re-assembled the engine and hooked up the distr. wires we mounted it in a friends project car which was a Monza. the dang thing started ,, once we were all done dancing and hugging we removed it and sold the engine to a local shop for exactly what i payed for the engine and parts/machine shop work.
it was a GREAT !!! learning experiance for my son and was a fun time for me since its been 10+ years since i did a total tear down.
the entire project cost me 0 dollars in the end and the experiance was ... Priceless

hey thanks for the input. your a really great father to your kids. i really wish my dad was into the car hobby but unfortunately he's not so im stuck trying to get internships and apprenticeships at local shops so i can be taught by mechanics. i hope your kids realize how lucky they are to have a father who is willing to teach them as well as be interested in the same hobbies.
