What kind of gas mileage are you guys seeing with your 4.2L's. Please indicate any mods you may have done that would affect mileage (CAI,exhaust chip, lowering, bigger wheels etc , and driving habits also. Thanks.

On the DIC it states my average is 14.6. All city driving. Of course it varies every week between 14.5 and 15. Highway it usually brings it back up into the 16 or higher. I really should reset that before i go on the highway to see exactly what i'm getting. I try to glide as often as possible, and cruise control is a must on the highway.

I tend to be pretty aggressive of a driver... especially when I respond to calls... however.... I am averaging about 14. This is now about 80% city driving.

No engine modifications.

I drive ~85% highway and get between 18.5-19.8 with the stock rims on. I only get 17.5-18.6 with the 20"s on. Airaid CAI, Borla cat-back, 3:73 gears, moderate driving habits.

DIC shows 18.2. My calculations show between 17-20 MPG. Mix of steady interstate and hwy speeds without cruise (my commute) gives about 18.5. Steady interstate speeds with cruise can get as high as 20. These figures drop by 1-2 in the winter or if I use the A/C a lot.

Stock everything, 3.73 rear diff., light to moderate driving.

13.5 MPG 100% all stop-go city driving- as high as 23.1 all highway. 3.42 gears. Calculated the old fashioned way dividing the miles by gallons used.

13.1 almost all city, stuck in some nice rough hour traffic on the way to and from work. I've got the 4.10 gears on mine. When I go on a road trip and reset, I usually get about 17.5 or so.

Wife's TB EXT gets 14.1 mostly city driving, bone stock w/3.42 gears. My Denali (5.3l) gets 14.3 w/3.73 gears, again bone stock. We both drive fairly spirited so I would expect our numbers to be on the low side.

I get about 15 in the city and 18 highway. The gas mileage in this TB depresses me. My Dodge Dakota that I traded in on this with a V8 was getting 17 city and 23 highway.

OT: How do I find out what gear ratio I have? I bought this used. Thanks.

Look inside your glove compartment. There should be a sticker with codes on it.

If you see the code:

GU6 you have 3.42 gears

GT4 you have 3.73 gears

GT5 you have 4.10 gears

I am averaging 17.5, I feel pretty lucky :) . I drive over a steep mountain every day and then back again to home. 60 miles round trip
Mine is stock, 6 cyl, 3.42, 4wd

Stock 2003 4.2L I6 Trailblazer 4x4, with LT package

Wife's driving (she drives a bit aggressive) the average mpg is between 12 and 15mpg thats WOT through city traffic for about 40-100 miles per day.

I average between 14.7/15 to 17.8mpg city in traffic (I drive fairly conservative and only WOT when the road rage sets in). Those are worst and best averages I have seen on my vehicle. HWY I get between 18 and 24mpg (that depends a lot on hills, cruise, speed limit [I usually do between 5 city and 10 hwy over], and how windy it is.) 3.42 gears.:hahano:

04 LS, 4.2L I-6, 3.42 gears, no mods. I average right around 15-15.5. I drive a combination of stop-and-go, with 2-lane hilly roads. I hardly do any actual highway driving. This last tank that I ran, I got 16.7. So, not sure why the sudden increase, but I'll see if it continues.
