07 Ohio meet

With the new year approaching I thinks it's time to see if there is any interest in an Ohio meet next year. I'm talking a big meet for all of Ohio, and surrounding states. I'd say the best location for it would be in the Columbus area. It's centraly located so everyone can make the trip. Post up any ideas or locations you guys feel would be best.

How many want a place to race and how many want just to show? If only a few want to race, then location can be anywhere. If we want to race as well, then we need to be close to National Trail Raceway, Marion County, Norwalk, etc.
If it's in Columbus, I will be glad to help organize as I am a drag racer from way back, and I can pick out some good spots for a show and a bar/dinner to hang at.

No, not really by Cleveland, around it yes, but it's a little further South and closer to Garfield Hts & Seven Hills. It would take you a little over 3 hours from Ft Wayne....I looked it up.

Thats sounds like a good idea to me. Might as well see what it would take for you to do this. We had a good amount at the last Cincy meet so if we plan this long enough in advance we should get an awsome turnout.

The Quaker Steak and Lube restaurant in the NE side of Columbus has a parking lot specifically for shows and cruise ins. Does the one up near Independence have one?
Since we don't have much racing interest, what month and what day of the week do you want. I'm thinking late April/early May, probably a Saturday. What day, what month, and what probability of attending are you?
I'm in for any Sat. in April or May, 100% for Columbus and 80% for NE Ohio. Anyone else?

Yeah, I grew up in NW Col. off of the Reed/Henderson Rd. area, went to Dublin Schools until 10th grade, when they built Centennial HS on Bethel Rd. Lived there again in 94-95 opening Sportmarts ( now the Sports Authority) in Dublin, and my folks became empty nesters, got a townhome up off Avery Rd. I miss Cent. OH sometimes, THE OHIO STATE BUCKEYES, Old Mans Cave, High Street, THE BUCKEYES, Cedar Point, THE BUCKEYES, Kings Island, Mid Ohio, ....:(

OK. I live and work pretty close to Quaker Steak and Lube. I'll call over there this week and see what kind of policy they have about getting use of their show lot. They accomodate cruises and shows almost every weekend during the summer. I'm guessing the show lot holds about 75 cars or so.
So as I understand it, we are looking at the weekend of May 19 and 20. We would like the lot for Sunday(May 20) cruise in/show. IS THIS CORRECT?
From the list in this thread, we seem to have quite some interest. For those of you not familiar with its location, it's on the NE part of town at I-71 and Polaris Parkway(route 750 I believe). This is about 2 miles north of I-270. It's pretty easy to get to. There is a huge new mall across the street if your wife likes to shop and every kind of restaurant imaginable is on Polaris Parkway. There are a few nice hotels within walking distance to QS&L.
I'm thinking of maybe we should get a trophy to give to the truck we vote 'Best of Show'. If everyone who comes throws in a couple of bucks to pay for it, it might give the meet a little focus. Any one have any feed back on any of this?

I met with a manager today from Quaker Steak and Lube regarding May 20 for a cruise in/show for our club. I will be making final arrangements in the next day or so. They have a normal cruise in from 5-9pm, we would need to be out of their show lot by around 4 or so. Maybe make the 'official time' from noon to 4 on Sunday, May 20.

I will have to begin a new 'OH '07 Meet' thread with info regarding the meet because this one has become too long. Once the new thread is up, you may want to bookmark it so you don't get it confused with others. QS&L will need some sort of an idea on how many will show up as the meet draws near, so I'm working on a way to gather that up without everyone responding in that thread.

I told him at this point we have about 30 people interested. He said they can accommodate a few hundred if need be. The show lot has about 125 spaces, but the surrouding lots can handle overflow.

I will also be posting info regarding hotels and restaurants since some have expressed an interest in those. The official address is:

It is located at the sprawling Polaris shopping district on the NE side of Columbus.

There are 4 hotels within 100 yds. of QS&L, 2 of which butt up to it. When I start the new 'OH 07 Meet' thread, I will post all the names of the hotels and restaurants that share the same area. I think Extended Stay Suites and a Comfort Inn are 2 of them, but I'll let you know when the meet is a confirmed go with QS&L, probably early next week.

I think the Clippers started up in about '77 as the AAA team for the Pirates. I remember going to a Columbus Owls hockey game when I was growing up.
When I was a kid, we lived near Reed and Henderson in Upper Arlington. I remember seeing at the Buckeye Mart, before it became Rink's, a '70 Plymouth Superbird or Daytona all painted up like Richard Petty's car. That was around '71. What that car's worth today, god only knows. Maybe I'll watch the Barrett-Jackson car auction this week and find out.

Liquidtherapy is going to keep track of interested attendees, and the initial list is about 25, but I imagine we'll get more than that. It's open to anyone who wants to just show up, but we'd just like some sort of a ballpark number as a courtesy to QS&L. For instance, if we have 300 people show up, QS&L might want to have more staff on hand. Realistically, I'm thinking in the neighborhood of 40-50. Anyway, I'll start a new thread soon and you can PM Liquidtherapy if you think you might attend.

I know what you mean, there is a ton of shopping that is 15-20 minutes from there. Just think, if you coming up I-71 you can stop at Jeffersonville too, lol
