I have an '03 TB LS 2wd and want to make it 4-by...anyone done the conversion? I think the wiring's there, as far as from the switch in the cab to the ecu....as far as whether the ecu is the same on both, I doubt....perhaps...I realise that a conversion takes alot more than tossing in a transfer case and some CV axles, but....just curious as to whether anyone's done it or not.

4-5 people have asked the same thing over the last couple of years, and we have over 9000 members (and a lot of silent lurkers). The general opinion is that unless you have a cheap, cheap, cheap wrecked donor vehicle for the parts, it's too expensive to even EXPERIMENT with an upgrade like this.

Much cheaper to just buy what you want in the first place.

Honestly, its not worth it at all...youre better off just buying a new one with a 4x4...youd need front axles, front diff, transfer case, new harness, and prolly a ton more...sorry to come off like this, but youd be venturing into uncharted waters...

Welcome to the commnuity!:)

I agree with all of the above, but if you want to do it, why not go full tilt and put in a solid front axle? Now, if you have the dough and the time, that is worth the time and effort.

yeap definetely not worth the hassle too many parts just thinking about this on the 4wd models the front diiff is partly supported by the engine oil pan and the axle runs through it. Just too complex just buy one with the 4wd already on it.

I guess if ya have deep pockets then git-r-done.

Man I can't even begin to imagine how much that would cost

So the general thought here..screw it? Didn't know how in-depth it would be....and no, pockets aren't deep...kind of in the kiddie-end of the pool, actually. Only officers make a butt-load of money these days...so, the hell with it. Just wanted to see what y'all thought. Thanks.

Go buy a used 02 4x4 - it would cost the same...

I've got the exact opposite problem, I've got a 4x4 and I want a 2x4 so I don't have to deal with so much when I lower my truck...

Yeah, as the roadie said you could easily sell your transfer case, front driveshaft, front diff, and front axles. You would also need to either sell/swap your main driveshaft as the 4WD ones are shorter b/c of the transfer case.

Or he can buy a bolt on overdrive for the tranny and have an extra gear, and keep his stock driveshaft :D
