Hmm, attach this small foam looking piece of foam with a P3 on it over a fuel line and wham, it ionizes gas giving you MPG and HP gain
Are they joking, is this chemically reasonable?

Maybe this is how chevy got the extra HP on the 2006 models!

Ha, funny thing is i was just reading an article in one my boating magazines and they actually tested all these "gas saving" devices. one word...scam. Some of them actually made for less performance and gas mileage. They had one similar to this.. i think the actual hp gain was like + .1%.. and no save in gas. You will see this on infomercials very soon.

I absolutely hate these stupid gimmicky devices, they're such crap...
maybe I'll make a website exposing these gimmicks, much like that little sticker that you put on your cell phone that boosts your service to full... it's amazing what adhesive can do!

Did you notice on the diagram the "Higest Power Neodymium Rare Earth Magnets?" If you're gonna try to scam people, at least spell correctly... :m2:

I don't know what is more impressive that all he sales is three HP adding junk or that he has gotten 1300 people to buy it. Can someone explain to me exactly how a head gasket will increase your HP?

Well, a head gasket is not unreasonable. It's an old trick to use a thinner head gasket to increase the compression ratio of an engine, which will increase HP and the expense of a higher likelyhood of detonation.
Someone does seem to come out with a new one of these "Magic HP and MPG increase" devices a couple times a year. The sad thing is that people actually buy them. Friends don't let friends buy these things!
I've also seen some things like this that don't even bother to say that they increase power. There was (and probably still is) a company that sold a speaker that made it sound like you have a turbo. 0HP gain, 0lb-ft gain, but it sounds cool :duh: !
At least the guy didn't get a single bid, unlike the one that "designed" the piece of wood under the accelerator to save gas.

Ok I can see that but that isn't what he is saying.
These gaskets were engineered to reduce the heat transfer between the Heads and the intake manifold. The result is much cooler/denser intake charge, higher horsepower and greater reliability. You can expect as much as a 5% increase in horsepower with the use of this gasket set.
Now I don't claim to know a lot about engines but that just doesn't sound right to me.
I know we are beating a dead horse here but sometimes it's just fun to beat on something.

Popular Mechanics just did a test of several fuel saving devices and they found that several actually reduce your mileage, not a single one increased it.

It has to do with the fluxcapacitor

Was it PT Barnum that said:
"There is a sucker born every minute"
I too read the PM article that tested several devices and none worked. Wish they would have found some that did.

The best way I've found to increase my gas mileage is to wear lighter shoes. Lead foot kills me.
I posted this on www.mytrailblazer.com. Turning off the A/C compressor when it is not needed has really improved my mileage.
For the past few months I've been keeping close tabs on my gas mileage so I can compare once I receive the Wester's tune. Thought I'd share the results and see how others are doing. Since 11 August I've put 2607 miles on the truck and purchased a total of 164.02 gallons of regular, for an overall average of 15.89 mpg. My worst tank full was in August @ 13.31 mpg, and my best was just this past week at 18.17 mpg. Since the weather has cooled off, I've tried to be good about turning off the A/C when it's not necessary. The default setting is for the A/C compressor to run whenever the climate control is on. I believe that explains the increase. I commute about 60 miles round trip, and most of that is interstate. I'd guess my highway/city ratio is about 70%/30%. I'm hoping to see at least a 2mpg average increase with the Wester's mod. If so, I figure the payback on the tune is approximately 1.84 years, assuming 15K miles per year (which is pretty conservative for me), and $2.50 per gallon. More miles per year, or higher gas prices and the payback is quicker. Thoughts? Opinions?

Turning off the A/C will help your mileage if you don't run with the windows down.
Several tests have proved that the increased aerodynamic drag produced by airflow disruptions with the windows down use more fuel than running the A/C.
I'm not so sure. The A/C compressor drains a lot of power. Mythbusters on the discovery channel did their own test, and their results are that running with the windows open uses less gas than running the A/C. I've never seen a scientific test that says otherwise.

Actually, they've since revisited that experiement. And they conclude that windows down is best when UNDER about 40 or 45mph. Over 40mph and windows up/ac on is better. I've also seen another "test" on this with similar results, the 40-45mph mark seems to be the break point.
I saw the re-visited episode, too, and I think they forgot the MAJOR benefit of running at 45+ w/the windows down. When running on the highway @ 45+ with the windows down, Mrs. tb05 doesn't talk as much! :rotfl:
