I was driving home last night and after stopping for gas my ABS and parking brake light came on with a "service brake system" message displayed. After this my ABS wouldn't work, but after stopping at walmart everything was fine again with the abs. Then I noticed my 4x4 selector wasnt showing what mode I was in (but was still illuminated and pluged in). But again this morning everything was fine??? Do I have anything to worry about??.......keep in mind it was -47°C where I live today

Yes you do have a lot to worry about. IT WAS -47!

Nothing works at -47. (Although us Canadians have been known to put on long pants and a hat)

Man that is cold and really hard on stuff!

Sounds like the voltage may have dropped low enough while cranking to scramble the TCCM and/or ABS module. The ABS module will reset the next time the vehicle is restarted, but the TCCM will most likely need a little help. - With the vehicle off, pull I believe the #8 fuse from the fuse box under the hood for a few seconds and then re-insert it......If I'm right, it will fix the problem. - My other thought was that the encoder motor was stuck or frozen due to the extreme cold (little moisture, extreme cold, frozen encoder), but that should yield a flashing light/error and not no light over the selector.

ya I know -47 is crazy, -50 with wind chill today (Winnipeg MB) but im off to mexico tomorrow so its all good.

I figured everything is rated to -20° with electronics so it was prob due to the cold, but needed to be sure I wasnt in for a huge bill.

thanks guys

Yea, i've had similar things happen last winter on a couple days when it was -20f after the truck had been sitting outside. its only happened twice but once it warmed up and i restarted it everything was fine. i was pretty concerned about it at the time but it hasn't got close to that cold this year for me to see if its going to do it again.
