View Full Version : Tire Sensors
Can't find on search if tire sensors can be swapped to any rim or if a rim has to be designed to accept them. Any help?
thanks

I have a set of Driv moonshine aftermarket wheels and they had the provisions for the tire sensors already in them. So I used the sensors from my factory wheels in the new ones but I sometimes switch between the two sets, I called a dealer to see how much a set of sensors were and they wanted $58.00 ea. for the things. But to answer your question I don't think all aftermarket wheels have provisions for the sensor so do make sure before purchasing.

The tire pressure sensors are built into the valve stem. The valve stem should fit through standard openings in any wheel. They worked with my new rims, but the wheel orientation made them stick out and the installer had to be very careful mounting the tire on the wheel.

Then I have a question, I'm only asking because I don't know , But my aftermarket wheels have both a valve stem and a seperate valve stem that has the sensor on the inside part of them rim? Are you saying that the sensors can be used in place of the valve stem? Well, After lookin at my stock TBSS rims I noticed they only had one hole for the valve stem/ sensor so I don't know why my Drive Moomshine wheels have two holes? Maybe for run flat tires or ?

Swapped mine when I went with aftermarket wheels. No problems or issues.

The sensors are part of the valve stem and the whole unit is kinda in the shape of a T.
I think it has to do with the placement (angle) of the hole on the rim, so that the tires wont snag them when trying to mount/dismount onto the rim. Aslo if you get a flat and the sensor is pointed to far down(towards the road) the tire would mash into the sensor and break it. I hope that this made some type of sense...:undecided

The sensors can be taken out and placed on 99% of the aftermarket rims out there. You can also buy a new set from GM or many aftermarket rim stores. One thing you will notice is how much lead will be needed to balance the rims.
