I was at my dealer the other day and they asked how I liked my TBSS AWD. I told them that I love it accept for the transmission shift points. They suggested to use 3 instead of D when you want performance shifting and then click it into D when at speed on the highway. Since doing this I have noticed that the truck accelerates much better. I think that even when just cruising around at ~30 MPH it was already in 4th. When I would step on it there would be a shift down all the way to 2nd which took way too long IMO and actually decelerated the truck so I would pull forward in the seat  . Has anyone else noticed this?

Better test that at the track and see what happens. It didn't show up on my timeslip, but you never know....
I have heard this same thing before. When I used to have a GTO, all of the guys over at ls1gto.com that have automatics were completely convinced that driving in "3" instead of "D" got them better ETs. I don't know how much value it holds, but there must be some truth to it.

I do this on my 02 as I cant stand the lag going btw 4th and 3rd while going like 30 and then trying to accelerate. I have been keeping it in 3rd til ~40-45 and then plop it into D.

On this Lincoln website I post on they say to turn OD off (pretty much the same as putting it in 3rd) and it changes the shift points. Granted that is a Ford transmission, but I'm sure it does hold some water. With my Lincoln I drive w/ OD off anyways because my tranny has a tendency to stumble into OD at very low speeds.

i dont know about actually changing the shift points, but it will increase the line pressure and make it shift firmer

anybody know for sure if it does increase the line pressure...I had never heard anything like this before and thought that all 3 vs D did was to not allow it to go into 4th gear.

The car is much more responsive because you are driving around in 3rd instead of D. It doesn't change the shift points. Here is the info from one of the tranny guys on the LS2GTO web site when people asked about this
"It is my recommendation to my customers that they race in the "overdrive position"
The reasoning for this is that in overdrive the overrun clutches aren't engaged as they are in any other range, and provides a solid 20 -30 psi extra pressure on the main line during the 2/3 shift. And we all know that that being the weakest point on the 4l60E needs all the help it can get.
Fact- Drag racing in OD is better for the transmission.

I've also heard it's bad on auto trannies to let it shift into OD at WOT. Anyone know anything about it??

How fast would you have to be going for the trany to shift into OD at WOT?
