What are you looking to do? With a 3000 stall you could go a bit bigger...

I went with a Comp Cams custom grind. 224/224 .610/.601 on 115 LSA straight up. It's completely streetable, even witht the stock converter. Also note that I do have SW headers/cats. The truck is heading to Vector tomorrow to get the dyno'd and retuned for the cam. I'll post up the numbers when I get home. Or if Chris let's me use his computer...maybe from the shop.;)

I think everyone should go with a 240/248 .640 .635 108 LSA. It is completely streetable even with a stock converter. Your wife will love to drive it. It is a great cam for daily driver cam.
Kidding.....I love cam discussions. :)

Does it start up and drive fine without a retune?
Post those #s.

Yes, it started up and idled fine even the first time after the install. Drove fine, just ran a bit rich, it seemed.
Kirk did a great job. Thanks to the guys at Vector for letting me hang out while my SS got the dyno all wet. Sorry Kirk!
Final numbers were something like 385/354, but I think I left the dyno sheets on Chris' desk.....maybe if he didn't throw them out, he might be able to post them up for me.;)
All in all, it feels much smoother than before. Kirk played with the shift points after the tune, and it's VERY enjoyable to drive.....or at least it would be if it weren't for all the damned snow up here.
Thanks again to Team Vector

Here is how I would break down what I would call the right approach to putting a cam in a TBSS
Stock Manifolds w stock catback
16-18 duration split between intake and exhaust i.e. 214/230 CheaTR cam. The LSA can be high with the right overlap the truck can idle like stock.
Stock Manifolds wcats and high flow catback
10-12 duration split between intake and exhaust i.e 210/220 or 214/224
Nobody makes a cam with these specs that I know of off the top of my head so most likely this would be a custom grind. The higher the intake duration the lower the LSA should be to keep torque down low (there are exceptions to this, but it is a good rule of thumb)114LSA
Headers w cats & high flow catback
8-10 duration split between intake an exhaust 222/230 on a 113+3 or 114+2 are great choices here.
Headers w/o cats & high flow catback
6 degrees duration split between intake and exhaust 224/230 or 226/232 are great choices. 111+3 or 113 LSA are great choices. These cams are pushing it a bit, but depending on the LSA and overlap can be driveable even with a stock converter. These are the cams that will give you over 400rhwp & torque. Combined with a great set of heads and you will see cars topping the 450 mark.
I hope this helps some folks. I gave a very flippant answer previously. I wanted to make sure folks had some thought process to guide them.
I would recommend the GT2-3 and CheaTR cams to folks that don't plan on putting headers on their trucks or can't get away with it because emissions. Both will easily pass California emissions. Throw a set of L92 heads at either cam and you have a solid 420-440 rwhp stock sounding truck. In retrospect.....that is the way to go. you could probably slide your truck in and out of the dealer for service and no one would be the wiser.

I was the one that spec'd out the cam you got from Mike. I would guess you should be between 430-450

 Just wait! Within two years guys will be running these things in blazers and calling a 224/228 a baby cam  It was the same way when the LS1's came out.
BTW, love your post above about cam durations. Most people look past the idea that the exhaust duration should be longer on cars with lower flowing exhaust. Good post.

Bah... Baby LS1 cams were 220/220 :p . At least I think that's what the "T1" was...
It was funny back in mid '99 when H/C LS1's starting running high 11's... No one believed it. And just look at them now! Here we are a few years later ~ w/ SUV's that just might run high 11's N/A ...

I have no doubt that these SUV's can go high 11's NA on motor. 430-450 is about the range you need to get there. There are two issues.....traction amd transmission. Anyone that wants to go 11's in a TBSS needs a trans or will need a trans. If y ou can get it to hook and keep the trans together 11's are a snap. I have no doubt a stock bottom end turbo tbss can go 10's or extremely low 11's. These things have a lot of potiential. I hope GM makes a million of em. Aftermarket parts will fall from the heavens and there will be FAST TBSS's all over the place

so an awd would be just a tick slower!! mabye by .2.. i plan on doing a cam but are waiting for the right heads. those L76 look pretty good and would pass for stock.. 11's would be nice N.A awd thats what i would like
