Well today it was snowing and put the tb in 4WDHI, and when i let go of the gas coming to a stop i would hear a whine(spl)
I switched it to 4WDA and it still did it.
Put it in 2WD and it stopped, not sure if this occured before b/c i hardly drive around w/o music on. Today i forgot my face plate for the radio so had to drive w/o beats:mad:

I have had/driven a number of GM 4x4s every one of them has gear noise when in 4 wheel drive. Surface doesn't seem to make any difference, but tire wear can make it louder (ie: more wear on one axle than other). IMO nothing to worry about.

I never drive around in 4W-Hi unless the snow has accumulated enough to allow the tires between the front and rear axles to "slip". In the case that is it at or below freezing and wet weather, the A4WD is turned on...so if there is slippage, the 4WD works when the ground condiditons will allow.

anything else is asking for drivetrain issues from extra strain and wear .

Are you sure it was the truck and not the driver??:D

No seriously, every 4wd I have had has had a small amount of whine. Have you had the fluids changed? Its a good idea to have them changed regularly to prevent any real problem.

roads had like a 1/2" of snow but under it, there was ice. Since i wasn't sure, i just drove w/ A4WD

no, I never changed it but i think the dealer did w/ the the 75,000 mile "tune up"
but anyway you have any pics or info on how to do it?
i might as well do it, since sat. i'm changing the fuel filter
