for some reason my front tires are wearing ALOT more than the back ones. Its really noticable. I dont know why. could it have something to do with the traction control??

you rotate tires regularly?
Are you one of those people that turns their wheel without the vehicle moving?
Those are the first things that come to mind, though you'd think that the rear tires would have more wear if you didn't rotate

their brand new i've had the rims and tires on for maybe 8 months and 6 of thoses months i drove it like 8 miles a week. So something does seems right. The back tires are prefect. no i haven't rotated yet. i turn the wheel when not moving just to line the rims up.

how are they wearing? evenly across, inside wear, outside wear, center wear? severly uneven tire wear can be caused by poor alignment and improper tire pressure. also, if the tires are a very soft compound, the front will wear quickly because of hard braking.

the wearing seems to be pretty even all the way across. agliment is off alittle but not enough to cause this. Their Nitto xtreme 555 265/40/22 tires. their pretty expensive and a top of the line brand. i've had other rims and tires on different cars before and i never bought new tires. the last car i had i sold it with the orginal tires i bought with the rims and drove that car everywhere and thye still perfect when i sold it

Here is my:m2:
Your alignment can very easily cause wear especially on soft compound tires.
Nittos Website is elusive about treadwear rating on any of their tires.
see:
http://www.nittotire.com/tech_utqg.asp
If you look in the picture the treadwear rating is 100. This is 3 or 4 times softer that OEM tires. Again my :m2:
I'd have your alignment checked. Good Luck!

WOW, a treadwear rating of 100! Thats really low, but then again, Ive never had performance tires. I think my Toyos have a treadwear rating of about 350-400, a little better than the 300? the stock BFGs had. Im approaching 5k, so time to get them rotated for the first time! Will probably go to Les Schwab this weekend.
EDIT: Just checked Toyo's website, and the Open Country A/Ts have a treadwear of 500!

Hey, they are Z rated tires, they're supposed to have a crappy wear rating, in exchange for being able to do 150mph+. I'd get'em rotated and your alignment done asap. and of course next time I wouldn't buy z rated tires for a truck.

z rated is what all tires that sizr come in. i've never a rim tire for 18"-26" not z rated. and mine are actually zr rated. and these only have maybe 2k on them. but i guess i to rotate asap.

I have the stock Michelin Cross Terrains and the fronts will show slight wear on the inner edge if I go beyond 5,000 miles w/o a rotation. (Alignment is fine.) As long as I keep them rotated there are no problems. One pair is original with 66K on them, and they look like they'll be good for another 5-10K. The other originals that were on the front when I bought my Envoy used got chewed up because I...um...didn't rotate them. :o
From what I've noticed trucks and SUVs need timely tire rotation otherwise the front tires will show wear much quicker than with a car. I assume it has to do with the steering geometry and increased suspension travel on trucks. Plus bigger rims and tires add "unsprung weight" which only compounds the problem.
Checking the tire pressure regularly and keeping them aligned and rotated is about all you can do. Many alignment shops offer "lifetime" contracts for the price of 2 or 3 alignments. I bought one of these and they told me to come in every 6 mos. If you're going to keep the truck for awhile you can't beat it.

I went through a set of 275/45-20 Eagle GTII's, but it took ~60K miles to do it. I rotated them every 15K and had the alignment checked every year.
z rated is what all tires that sizr come in. i've never a rim tire for 18"-26" not z rated. and mine are actually zr rated. and these only have maybe 2k on them. but i guess i to rotate asap.
Not quite accurate, most tires that size are V rated or better....there are quite a few V rated tires in that size range, that would have treadwear ratings in the 400s.
What rating is actually on the side of your tires? (Is it only 100, which would imply around 12,000-15,000 mile life).
