just the other day i noticed that the know used to switch my 03 TB into 4wd had broke. i went to the gm dealer up the road and asked for a new know thinking i could just change the know out. they told me i had to buy the whole switch for about $24. anyone else have this happen and could give a little insight into how to change the whole switch out (ie. do you have to take half of the dash off). the guy showed it to me and i noticed the switch had 2 clips on it (1 on each side) so it looks like it just pops in. but how do you take the old one out without scratching the dash up. Or anyone if it is possible to get just the the knob somewhere and not have to replace the entire switch?

The knob on my '06 Envoy Denali's 4wd mode switch is broken as well. It will pull out with no resistance, and occaisonally fall out.
I hope that the dealer will efficiently replace the knob on my next maintenence visit.

Hmmmm maybe I should keep the spare switch that I have here if this is a fairly common problem. I got a "new" switch when I got my radio surround at the junkyard.

You have to remove the dash area that the switch in mounted in. Once you have it loose, you can just pop out the old one and install the new one.
