Sorry to be so dense...but what do I do with the c-clamp after it is snugged onto the fan pulley? Do I apply opposite pressure with my hand to the c-clamp to counteract the rotation due to my wrench on the fan nut?

That's the link where I first saw the idea...do I hold the c-clamp in my hand to secure the pulley? If so I guess I have one of those nuts that's too tight. I have used PB Blaster as well but the nut isn't budging.

Yeah, I just let it lock up with the waterpump

If not that hold it with your hand, it shouldn't take that much torque.

:sadcry: mine is taking a lot of torque...I guess I will have to buy/rent a tool

I haven't been able to get mine off either. Takes a lot more torque than I'd figure - plus the little c-clamp tool I bought is twisted up now. Maybe the trick only works on newer models, that haven't been through a lot of heat cycles yet?

Also... I haven't been able to locate a removal tool that will work since the waterpump pulled has recesses instead of bolt heads. I did go out and buy a big strap wrench since I've heard that would work... Still haven't gotten around to trying it yet.:duh:

yeah I tried a big strap wrench but I still can't get enough turn on it...maybe you will have better luck...what I didn't do was allow the strap wrench to brace against a bracket or some other part of the engine, that might work.

the gm fan tool seems to be somewhat hard to find...it seems like there is only ever 1 or 2 on ebay and they want a premium. called the autoparts stores around me and they only seem to have the ford one.

are you guys turning the nut the right way? I've done quite a few like this with no problems at all.

I assumed I was turning it the right way, CCW? The nut loosens when turned in the direction of the passenger side of the vehicle?

Just replying to follow the thread. I'll need to know this too!

Yep,

Are you sliding the belt out of the way and clamping to the pulley? If so why isn't it working.. slipping? too much torque?

Yeah I slid the belt to the front of the pulley and clamped to the pulley. My c-clamp screw is bending when I apply pressure. I just realized I am using a 2" c-clamp, so maybe the larger size is allowing more deflection than the smaller clamp you specify. I will buy a small clamp and try that.

Alvin, Somewhere here you posted the E-fan installation instructions. I can't find them, can you post the link again?

Thanks man,
Steve

Edit: Found it

I used my air chisel and had no problem.

I'm having the exact same issue... :sadcry:

I'll figure it out. I got a cam to install :woot:
